The Silent Treatment: Does It Work?

The Silent Treatment Does It Work

Many women often shut down when they are angry with their boyfriends or partners. They refuse to acknowledge them. Instead, they walk around the house sulking. If they do not live together, they will send his calls straight to voicemail or simply turn off their phone. Women assume that men will be hurt by their actions because if the roles reversed, they would be hurt. However, do men really hate the silent treatment?

Here She Goes Again

On contrary to what many women think, a man is hardly ever hurt by the silent treatment. He is usually annoyed because he considers it to be a childish behavior. In his mind, he may be thinking along the lines of "here she goes again" and wait until she is back to normal. Once he realizes that she is not talking to him, he will not make much effort to speak to her. Instead, he will ignore her as well because he does not see the point of trying to force her into speaking. He knows that she will come to him when she is ready.

What Did I Do This Time?

When a woman refuses to speak to her significant other, he will start to question what he did to cause this treatment. This does not mean that he will regret what he did or change his actions in the future. It just means that he will be confused by her anger. If you use the silent treatment every time you get upset with the man in your life, he will eventually get used to it.

Quiet Time to Think

Since women are more natural communicators than men, they think that a man would die if they couldn't speak. This is far from reality. Most men enjoy quiet down time. If a woman decides that she is temporarily not speaking to him, he will find other things to do with his time. While you are being angry and silent, he is enjoying the ball game with hot wings. He also could be out drinking with his friends; reading a good book; catching up with friends or talking to a low-drama female friend who offers him tons of attention. If your man is the pensive type, he may take this quiet time to think about your relationship. He also may evaluate whether you are worth undergoing the silent treatment or not.

While the silent treatment seems like an efficient plan of getting back at your man for his behavior, it may quickly backfire on you. Since many men do not need constant attention to feel good about themselves or the relationship, they may even enjoy the time off from talking and overanalyzing something that they did wrong. If you want to address an issue in your relationship with your man, it's likely best just to come out and address it, instead of turning silent.

That's the best way to get rid of a person.

Some men respond by ringing constantly even when you're at work and can't talk . Men are not perfect either , none of us are . Silent treatment is being passive aggressive but better than screaming and shouting at each other like some people do. We can all learn to improve our behaviour if we acknowledge we have a problem but some behaviour is so ingrained a person may need professional help to gain insight and skills to change tge behaviour. The problem then is finding a properly qualified person since some so called therapists know even less than we do ourselves on the subject but happily charge you big professional fee. It's never too late to learn ,to grow ,to become the better version of ourselves.
