Why do almost all older women wear thier hair short?

It's a question I've often asked myself too.

I'm not young but my hair is quite long....as it always has been, only much longer in my younger days. Here in Spain, most middle-aged women retain their long tresses regardless of age and I don't feel out of place, but when I work in Russia I am an oddity because there, I have been told, once a woman hits 35 the hair is shorn!
I think it becomes easier to manage. A lot of older women have either: 1. lost some of their ability to care for a longer hairstyle, or 2. just simply don't feel inclined to fuss with their hair because they're way too busy living life to the fullest.
I have very long hair and can't imagine clipping my locks short, but 30 years from now, I may very well say "Bah! Why waste an additional hour in front of the mirror each morning when I could spend that hour smelling the roses!"
Short wigs are cheaper?
I wear mine short because I will not colour it and the silver just looks better short.

Besides I wore it waist length for many years and it is nice not to get tired brushing it.laugh
its easier to take care of..they say women that get older..they look better with hair shorter..i am now just growing mine out..but i think its men who have the problem with women having short hair..
maybe women cut there hair short to try some thing new. do u have a hair feedish?
look at some makeovers
or the things where people guess someones age

short hair is better as one gets older
im not saying a crew cut
but the face falls a bit
the lines of long hair on either side just drag it down
its all lines
duh

but depending-shoulders or an inch or two below isnt short
also ive known many guys that like it
and i wear mine mussed-very punkish
so its usually somewhat short
if its long its 2 or 3 colors..?

to generalize makes one seem inexperienced
or uninterested in experience...
I will wear my hair as long as I want to for as long as I want to and plah plah plah what other people think,my hair my way.head banger cheering tongue
It suits them better I think. As some women get more mature the long hair can sometimes drag their faces down and short their hair it tends drag their faces down a little.
I think that women listen too much to what other women say - If you ask a mans opinion, they all like long hair. Same with fashions. Women are inclined to dress to how their friends think they should, not to what men like.

Hair is like teeth - you got it, care for it!
Shorter hair is easier to care for. Some women also look more youthful with their hair short.
Sometimes I am tempted to go short and have done in the past for a change of look, but some women I think assume shorter hair is the way to go when they get older, but it doesn't have to be that way. But it does take time caring for hair if you want a particular style and look. Sometimes I think why not just go the whole way and shave it off. I have never tried that look. Too cold now anyway and could I go through with it anyway?

I can't send you mail so will just say what a wonderful lady you are bouquet
I still have longish hair because it has retained its color and my skin is relatively unlined. I have always had longish hair and can't imagine having it cut short. I kind of envy women with short hair because it's easier to maintain. It does seem someone makes up rules like this, though, and peer pressure can be hard to buck. Whenever I see a woman (or man) be boldly himself/herself no matter what society thinks, I admire their individuality and strength. gift
My hair is getting long and I plan on letting it grow a bit more.
I will never have short hair because the last time that I had my hair cut just above shoulder length "girl style hair cut" this guy that came to my door to try to sell me something said to me "excuse me sir would you like to buy this product" He just lost a sale...lol When he realized that he made a mistake he said sorry....I thought "to late"...lol

I knew this older lady, she was 65. She had long hair, just above the middle of her back. Beautiful silver hair that she always tied up into a ponytail. I thought this made her attractive. She would not have looked the same with short hair.
I think its because the older you get the more you become your own woman and stop doing things just to please others. Im always changing my hairstyle. short, when i'm in the mood or I let it grow until I get tired of it and I happen to have the absolute best hairdresser in the world, yay I just let him do whatever he wants and its always fabulous.
i think ill always wear it long. couldnt imagine any shorter
I may say we women have different lifestyle and hairstyle preferences depending on the kind of situations we are into.Am older but i still wear my long hair even if it is fine.I love to wear my long hair and take care of it even in my busiest time.So it all depends to each individual....bouquet teddybear
Janice524-loved your comment. I wear my hair short, because I find better places to spend my time then in front of the mirror trying to fix my hair. I can "let my hair down" whether in a convertible or on a motorcycle, and my hair still looks get when I am done...lol How many long haired women can say that? Well I believe most of them have to carry a comb or brush with them, not me!!head banger
I think it just depends.

I tried cutting mine short thinking it would look more "sophisticated" on me but it really didn't look or feel right. Some women look great with cute, short hair cuts but I think some do not and look better perhaps with the hair pinned back or in a longer style.
correction - "fall to the waist - not waste" LOL
Long hair on a women is like a strand of DNA, most men are turned on by it!!!!!!banana wow
I think it depends on the woman. If you consider me an older woman, well I don't wear my hair short.
The older you get the more cumbersome it gets to care for long hairlaugh
and to colour and care for hair is expensive, so pensioners keep it short and simplegrin saving time, saving money... practical approach peace

*Long Hair is simply lovely & *Short Hair that is Spiked to the Rafters is cool. It Rocks just like NYC during a Brian Seacrest Rockin' New Year's Eve Celebration in the Middle of Manhattan! My Platinium Locks are currently short, but I am currently in the process of growing back my Swishy Pony Tail so that I may wear a large black ribbon just to be Young at Heart...

I cut my hair after my divorce. I had only kept it short for all that time because my ex preferred it that way. I am getting too experienced to let someone even a dear person to myself to let them dictate how I appear.

When I went in to get my hair cut I asked the hairdresser if I could pull the look off, and she reassured me that it all comes down to attitude. I love my hair now and enjoy the fact that it is so easy to deal with.
Maybe most older women cut there hear so it less falls off rolling on the floor laughing
