9 lies in 1 hour !

I am really amazed at the frequency of lies people use all around. I had to go with some friends to help them get service warranty on some defective items they bought and the stores were not giving them what they rightfully should. So, I went with them and helped them out as best as I could - knowing some of the aspects of product warranty more clearly than them. After finishing with that they wanted to go for some quick shopping on the way so I had to be dragged along, afterall I do not go with them all the time and did not want to ruin their evening. So, I decided to amuse myself coz shopping is boring. I thought of counting lies around me randomly. My friends were busy looking at the clothes and all that crap that did not interest me so I kept in close by occasionally joking with them and such but started observing around. It first started with a salesperson lieing to a buyer right next to me - he was trying to sell her a crappy piece of shit that was overpriced and lied to her that the same thing was being sold all over the market for double the price and that they were running a special which is why the price tag was as it was and it so happened that I had just seen the same thing with a much lower price tag in the previous store that my friends and I went to. Then the second one was one of my friends lied to his gf that we were trying to get the warranty stuff taken care of whereas he was shopping. It went on around me and within a span of 1 hour I could count 9 white lies. It was kind of shocking and a bit disappointing. Again, I am not that smart as in street smart and am really gullible in many personal matters so I bet there were many more lies being spewed around me than the 9 that I could figure out. WTF is wrong with us - are we a race of liers ? Have we lost our truthfulness or are we becoming more untruthful as we evolve ? .............................................. Makes me want to raise a family in the wild , maybe on the mountains where there is less influence of society or something lol

Tech,
Sadly what you say is entirely true. It seems people these days prefer to lie even when telling the truth either wont hurt them or may even help them. The only thing you can do is to hold the ramparts and stand by your convictions. Hell, if Bill Clinton had just said "I'm a horny American, and one of the most powerful men on earth" instead of "I did not have sexual relations, with that woman...", I'd have reelected him on the spot had I the means.

Not withstanding malicious intent or the desire to escape sanction or scrutiny, I think everyone has become so concerned with not hurting another person's feelings by telling them the truth, not what they want or need to hear. My father once told me "You only lose your integrity once..." Good words to live by. Remember, sometimes ya eat the bear, 'n sometimes the bear eats you. here's to you professor head banger

Yeah, it does seem like people are more than willing to lie just for the sake of lying, even for really small stupid things. It's rather annoying.

confused Well, in the case of salesmen/women lieing to customers . . . happens all the time, especially if they work on commission. Someone who works for wages doesn't need to lie to make a sale to boost their pay check. Their raises don't work that way. And every other place I have worked at has said to help the costumer no matter if we lose the sale, because they will come back since the service was so good. rolling on the floor laughing Doesn't always work out that way, but all well.

When I worked @ Wal-mart, a lady came in to return some space heaters. Our specific store did not carry them at all, and the warehouse had stopped carrying them the winter before. The lady had them for about nine months in her attic where rats pissed and shit on them. Though she never used them, and still had the reciept, the CSM wouldn't take them back. Then the big Boss came down and said "oh, yeah, we'll take those back. No problem!" WARRENTY WAS UP, AND THEY WERE COVERED IN RAT "STUFF", AND THEY TOOK THEM BACK!

The point: they will do anything for a buck and to keep their customers, even parade nasty rat shit through the store where kids run around daily. YUCK!

Hi,

The world is starting to be a very sad place, when us humans are not able to trust others. I work with rescue animals, mostly horses, and see how they are so forgiving, yet they never forget those that have lied to them. The promise of food and water, shelter, free from pain, and most of all their sprit of love is soon broken! This is very hard work to undo all the lies and pain to find the sprit within, but with time they forgive, if only us humans can be so forgiving. Better still if we can prevent it, or at least admit when we are wrong we would be so much better. So many people don't realise what they are doing, but the worst ones are the ones that do know, just to make life easier, its easy to walk away (or lie) rather than face the truth. The only thing that comes out of this is people end up lying to themselves, and hurting others in the process, with or without caring.

If we look on the other side, there are also many people out in the world who are doing their best to pick up the pieces that others leave behind. Its just finding them that can take time, but I belive they are out there! In the end good comes above the bad, always!yay
