My Funny Valentine
a true story.
Valentine's Day was yesterday, as most of us are aware.
It's been about 1 1/2 years since my break-up with my last in- person girlfriend. We were together exclusively for 6 years. I specify "in-person", because I've had 4 online/phone relationships with 4 women since then. All 4 were from a different social network site and these relationships lasted from 2 weeks to 6 months, where we would send lots of e-mails and talk on the phone every night & day. Regardless, last Valentine's Day was the first one I spent alone since... geez, since I was 14 years old.
So, you would think it would feel lonely, right ? Nope, it actually felt like a refreshing change, like a weight was gleefully lifted from my shoulders. I truly celebrated my freedom last year. It felt great !
However, this year is quite different. I guess part of the reason is, that my mom died last month. Also, I learned, that my cousin died the other day. He was about the same age as me. Lastly, although I am headed back towards New Jersey later this week, I am very much alone here in Florida. There are not a lot of people I know here at all. The three people I know the best are my sister, her husband and their son. All 3 went away on Friday for a weekend festival in Melbourne and are still there.
Thus, perhaps my sister detected a certain loneliness in my voice on the phone, that she hadn't heard before. Therefore, she asked me, if I would be interested in having a female friend spend the weekend with me. Huh ?! Apparently, they've known this gal for several years and I did hear them talk about her on occasion, but I never met her, nor, obviously, has she met me. So, this topic was a bit of a surprise to say the least. I mean, I can imagine a short meeting, but a whole 3 day long weekend together ? That seemed like a bit much, since we never met. Indeed, I was a bit reluctant, but tried to disguise it in my voice to my sister. Thus, I agreed, but not without some reservations.
Now, according to my sister, this girl was thin, part asian, very pretty with long hair and quite affectionate. This sounds good, but who hasn't had blind dates that weren't all they sounded at first ? Since my sister has a key to my mom's place, she volunteered to drop this young lady off at my mom's place, while I was out. Although I was quite hesitant to leave this girl alone with my stuff, my sister assured me that she was not like that and would respect my things. My sister also stated that since there are three bedrooms, that I didn't have to worry about sleeping arrangements, as the girl could sleep in my mom's room.
So, on Friday evening I came back to my mom's place knowing that the gal would be waiting for me. I was a bit worried, as I pulled up to the street where my mom lived. Was she going to like me? Was I going to like her ? Would we get along ? Just how affectionate is she ??? Hmm.
As I opened the front door, I noticed the phone had been moved, so I speculated a bit as to what kept her occupied in my absence. I shouted a "hello !". She came sauntering into the room and I swear, she was much more beautiful, than my sister described. She had big dark eyes, that were just a slight bit crossed, sort of like that girl from the Partidge Family, Susan Dey.
At first she said nothing and gave me a mixed look of hesitancy with a hidden eagerness to come closer. That, "should I, or shouldn't I" look. I just wanted to calm her fears and let her know that she could trust me. Eventually, I guess the message came across.
Soon, she felt reassured and her affectionate nature really surfaced. Did it ever ! I have to tell you, we hit it off surprisingly well. I don't want to go into details, but we spent a good part of the evening snuggled together on the couch watching a movie.
Yup, my sister was right. Sagwa is one special Siamese cat. 
No one can say, that I didn't get a little pussy for Valentine's Day.
