Bad spelling and grammar.

Why?

Why does it bother me so much? Too many people that blog cannot spell or use proper grammar. blues

I become frustrated and pass right over these blogs. I decide not to even look at the person’s profile. I'm not being mean. I'm very serious to the fact that there are too many typos, misuse of words like: they're, their and there. Or LIAR spelled LIER. Accept or Except? Then or Than. Decisions, decisions.

We're all adults. We should have all learned the same curriculum in every grade from Kindergarten to our senior year of High School. When did we become so lazy, spell words phonetically and forget the English language? When did phonetics take over rather than utilizing the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary?

It actually saddens me to see that even with all our technology, no one has taken the time to spell check their work. You're on a computer, please do us all a favor and type your post on MS Word, spell check it and then post it.

I think your overly critical. Most adults have a hard time with the English language. It's horrible to spell and most of us are just not grammatical connoisseurs like you. I use Mozilla Firefox with the speller checker and even that does not(now I am afraid to use doesn't) catch all my mistakes. I know the difference between they're, their and there but it still gets me every time...
I think phonetics should take over the English written(did I get this one write? joke!(right) language and it should be rewritten(how about this one?), it needs a serious makeover.

I notice many people use shortcut style and that's fine by me. I guess some of us don't(how about this one?) care to over intellectualize life...it makes it boring.

It was stressful writing this post...Am I in school or a social site? Now, I wonder, did my speller checker catch everything?

Me too I get upset about poor spelling, but I differentiate between forums and profiles etc

In a forum I am also liable to make spelling errors, because it can happen quite fast, and the essence of the communication is not very deep,- But if someone has more than one spelling/grammar error on their profile, I have to admit this person is 'out of the 'picture' for me, because after all they had plenty of time to edit and correct,-or use the forum to have it checked over by other members etc..
First impressions count, everybody knows it,- and those that don't just seem a little simple to me.

Btw, I learned to speak English after I was 20 yrs old, so no excuse for foreigners neither!
And I am dyslexic, though I will admit it affects me mostly with numbers and sequencing.

I agree, those who are spelling challenged should use the (free) Firefox web browser, it has helped many to improve their spelling.professor

Calm down V! No need for stinky attitudes.

1. My blog
2. As I stated, use spell check
3. I know what dyslexia is and it still doesn't mean someone can't use spell check and take the time not to look like or sound like an ignorant person. But, then again perhaps it's a good thing everyone sees the grammatical and spelling errors so people can decide not to date them.
4. Cinnamongirl was taken, but I've owned almost every "Cinnamongyrl" since 1993.

Spelling issues still bother me. I choose not to date anyone that cannot communicate properly. I just wonder if no one ever fights to improve themselves and be a better person - dyslexic or not. This is about being the best person you can be in every aspect of ones life. Not going through life settling for things. A Frankenstein of words.

Spell check is only one little step.

And, Jareo - I wasn't talking about people from other countries. But, that is HILARIOUS you think it's actually "busting someone's balls". Really? Maybe complaining that the toilet seat is constantly up is like fist fighting.

And, "favour" is a Brittish variant of favor. I'm all U.S.A. thank you very nice.

I choose to be single. I'm not passed up dear. But, I need and want everything on my list or it just won't work out - intelligence is #1 on my list.

I think I'll just continue passing over all the blogs that carry their massacre of words.

At the risk of sounding like someone I really abhor myself - a snob, I definitely have to agree pretty much with the girls here. Though we all have to admit, that the English language IS a complete joke with its random inconsistencies, being able to write competently to SOME degree, JUST MAKES IT EASIER FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND YOU.
I know we all have typos. There are obviously differing regional spellings for the exact same word, we could have an 'off' day, we could be inebriated (have you ever tried typing while pissed?!?! SO funny!!), we're all human.
HOWEVER,
As much as I'd like to just trounce the following 'offenders' and really BE a snob, I won't. It's not nice. I think the most difficult to understand writing of all, are those whose authors just couldn't be bothered their lazy holes with punctuation. Commas and full stops or periods whichever part of the world you're from, they are ESSENTIAL.
We'll even forget about being sensitive to things like this.
****IT'S JUST SO RIDICULOUSLY HARD TO READ.***
SURELY, that makes sense? I'm sure if people were honest, there's quite a few people out there, who just throw punctuation to the wind, and even they themselves cannot understand what they've written, even days afterwards.
I KNOW... it's very tempting to re-write the English language. I myself would LOVE to dispense with the letter 'c' or 's'. Although if we got rid of 's' since it overlaps crazily with both 'c' and 'z', it'd certainly reduce so much confusion. You'd still be left with the dual use of 'c' with 'k' though. Get rid of 'c' or 's'??? Should I start a poll people?!?! Oh Jesus, then we've got the letter 'q'.... what a MESS....
ANYWAY, that aside, the more that INDIVIDUALS decide to take it upon themselves to make up their own language, the less they will be understood. It's a simple obvious deduction.
On an aside note, I COMPLETELY take my hat off to someone like Miss Fox there, I mean err... GreenTassels for acquiring the level of proficiency which she has in the English language, considering
a. It's not her native language
b. It's such a damn inconsistent mess of a language to learn, even for 'native' speakers. Hell, there's a LOT of English people themselves who are very poor speakers/writers. NO offense meant though. I'm just commenting on the language itself.
c. She's so damn good-looking. Such good-looking people are normally as thick as a plank!! Nah, I'm ONLY messing!!!! Relax wink

Also, last point.
d. Cinnamongryly is fine. It's fairly obvious who could have the pick of the crop if & when she wants to.

Frankly, bad grammar and bad spelling turns me off too.

Come on folks, English is not that complicated, trust me. I learned English on my own when I came to this country. I was 21 and, guess what else, dyslexic.

Is it that much of an effort to open a dictionary or use spellcheck?

i'm with you on this one. a few mistakes here and there aren't that big of a deal (no one is perfect), but if it's so bad i can't even follow your train of thought, i'm not going to bother to continue to read.
my friends call me a grammar nazi. and it's true. i also hate when people use 2 or u instead of the words. does it really take that much more time to spell it out? really?
and yes, i type in all lowercase letters (i know someone is going to say something), it's a style choice, like typing in a different font.
