Books - a Special Connection
I have always been a lover of books. Actually that is the reason for my having to wear glasses from a young age. I have always loved reading - magazines, books, newspapers. It is one of my great loves.
I am finding it very hard to get into the E-books, for me nothing beats turning a page in a book or sticking your bookmark to the page where you left off and picking it up as soon as you get free time. As a child I read on the bus on my way to and from schoool.
When I moved into my apartment a few years ago the main problem was where to put my books. I don't loan them out easily as people are not as caring as I am with my books and they lose them. So I don't loan my books to NO-ONE.
I tell people if they want to remain friends do NOT ask to borrow my books as I become a librarian - which book is loaned and to whom plus the date of return and condition so to avoid them losing a great friend (ME ) Don't ask to borrow.
My best friend and I are the same way- we love books.
I have to buy a new bookshelf as I have a list of some new books I want to buy next- First on the list - 12 Years a Slave.
I can't wait although I am currently reading - Stephen King's The Dome!

I used to keep books like this but the one day I decided that they were just taking up space and gathering dust. I got rid of the whole lot.
Oh, I still love reading - only best selling authors though - but I get rid of the book the moment I am done with it. Plebeian, I suppose but our values does change over the years.
No never get rid of them ...I reread my books! Quirky but true!
At the current degree of my senility I should keep my books too. After a few months it will be like a new book to me,
I too am very particular with my books. Was just telling someone today we were discussing reading various things and I was saying that a pet peeve of mine is I cannot stand to write or underline in any of my books. I had much rather have a notebook and take any notes I feel necessary than to underline or write in my books. Just something I guess is a pet peeve of mine as I always saw books as something valuable to me.
Glad you enjoy and still enjoy reading and real books. You are so right there is just something about having the real book in your hands. I would like to download some but I think I still like having the real books though sometimes having enough book shelves can become a problem.
I have read a very long time ago some of Stephen King's books, just have not read any of his in many years.

Truly it is sad....but true.
Stephen King is one of my favourite authors. I love horrors, thrillers, autobiographies, True Crime, and once in awhile Romances.
Nothing beats reading a book and being transported to a new country and experiencing the tale as the writer intended.
now I know that is not true! you recommended " cat in the cat " to me
P.S you read the blogs You are too funny! Hope all is well!

now I could be wrong but I am sure recently you blogged about reading a note...maybe it was an email. Now if I wrong....my apologies as the disabilities of others is certainly no laughing matter!

Just sitting here, listening to the music on cs. Great tunes too!
...." Happy"
Nothing beats the smell and feel of books...I prefer this over e-books any day...I enjoy reading Irving and Amy Tan...also like Richler...too many to write down...but love to read about people and their journeys...
Happy to hear! music is another great love!Continue to be happy!
Yes, I do agree!Nothing beats a paperback! It is best when you are at the beach sitting in a beach chair while listening to the ocean with the radio playing softly and reading a novel! Heaven on earth!
Think I have only read maybe one Amy Tan book. I usually stick to my usual stuff- horrors, thrillers etc.
I recently have started reading Tony Robbins and Jack Welch, not finished yet.
I do have some friends like that also but I am of course closest with my best friend as we would sit in the same room reading our books and not talking just enjoying our books. We still enjoy life but books are a wonderful escape into another world!
I read very quick and also a lot - I gave up collecting books because it just got too much and I didn't know where to store them. So I go to the library a lot or give them away to charity shops after reading.
If I want to treat myself, I go to buy a nice book, nice food, and go to bed for a whole, quiet Sunday.
I too, prefer to read the book before I watch the movie. It is usually much better and untouched by the director editing.
Yes paperbacks are the best!
How are you and Mike? Hope you are both well!
Sunday afternoon with the raindrops falling lying on my couch curled up with a book! Second heavenly place on earth!
