Bushwalking

...some of you might refer to it as "hiking"...but for Australians, we 'bushwalk'.

I spent many years doing this as way of relaxing, forgetting about the week I had just had... and then, things changed in my life and I changed one simple pleasure for another. I know what you are thinking here... scold No, I did NOT call Mike simple. giggle

But the pleasure for me is to go walking through nature. The serenity is captivating... it brings a calmness and you can lose yourself in this environment.

My last day off for the weekend meant that I had the day to myself... and whilst I should be doing housework, I justified that my ironing and washing were done... and I drove to a Lyrebird Walk nearby.

There were only a few other individuals using the track, a couple of runners ...who barely interrupted my solitude as they rushed past ...

and a family with children that were using the trail to see which brother could beat which. I am not even sure their parents had time to enjoy the solitude as they raced to keep up. But they were very polite; they all said hello as they passed.

After finishing this walk... I headed to the local country town to have a coffee. I was given good advice to try a café there... and the recommendation certainly came through for me... the coffee was the best I have ever had.

Hello Serene,

I had no idea you perused the blogs...it's nice to see you.

I find there is something incredible about being out in nature and losing yourself in it. I really enjoyed today... I must make more time for it.
Yes....very nice. I am planning some "bushwalking" for this summer myself....but I call it hiking. :)

Great pics....plan on doing the same here.
Hello Angel,

I have called Mike many things, but never a 'brush'... hmmm, not sure what to make of that... Use him for my hair?

I recall once when I was in Texas with a friend and he suggested going 'hiking' ... I looked at him and said, "Bushwalking, you mean?"... He laughed at me and told me I was a weird Australian.
ABAG:.......laugh
Hey there Johnny,

America certainly has some amazing places to explore. I haven't been to Michigan, but I am assured there are some amazing places. I loved Texas, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming ... and a few other states. The parks there are just beautiful.
Abagail, I wanna come go with you at once. Love the pictures and I see you had a wonderful walk. I'm still feeling sick, so I just have to stay inside. I was out for a walk yesterday, but got worse when I came home, so this Easter has been a drag so to speak. Will go see my doc tomorrow. Enjoy your coming week and thank you for these lovely bush walk. hug teddybear hug
Hello Welela,

I am sorry to hear you haven't been well. You may come with me :) I know how important nature is to you.bouquet
Abagail Beautiful place, Penfriend of mine lives near you and takes full advantage of the walks. Also is a fantastic painter and sometimes the wildflowers he comes upon are unbelievably beautiful. Glad you have that marvellous facility. Enjoy !
Iotaoo ...Yes, the country girl comes out in me...often.

300-500 km's ... that would be a weeks worth of hiking? That is incredible... How many individuals participate in this activity?
Looks like an interesting walk dancing those are sure bolt upright trees wow like soldiers on parade, as opposed to most of ours that look like a pensioners tea party laugh rolling on the floor laughing wine
It was a lovely day out, Z.

This area has lovely trees, but it simply depends on what area of Australia you live in. Beach areas have scrub-like trees.

...grin Although I must say, a tea party sounds lovely!
I can't agree with you enough, LouLou.

I recall walking through Maple leaves in Canada in Autumn and I loved that crunching sound... and the quiet... the cold... It all felt rather surreal.
Hi Abagail
An interesting word. Bushwalk, that is. Here in SA, when you talk about hiking, the first thing that comes to mind is hitching a ride.laugh

Hi Aba,
Beautiful pics. Thank you for sharing. Happy to see all is well!hug Enjoy the rest of your day!teddybear
Nice pics, Abagail! I live in the "brush" so I only need walk up my long long driveway....We don't go in the woods this time of year...too many ticks!!!conversing wow
Iotaoo...this happens once a year? The idea has some merit for people. I do find it quite meditative to be out there, but for me... I can be in a bushland area within fifteen minutes of home.

Catfoot ... Yes, we call that hitch-hiking too, Cat. The terminology appears to be a bit different in every country.

Recently I discovered that the spider we call the "huntsman" is called a "common rainspider" where you are.

Bajanshay ... Hello there, Bajanshay. You are most welcome. It's delightful to be able to share the photos. As for the rest of my day... well it was the last day I had off before returning to work. It was "Oh sooooo goood" being able to relax for three days. :)
LOL im not simple at all strange though its called lyrebird forest walk and although i love forest walks there is nothing worse than a lyrebird or a liar bird or a bird that lies wave rolling on the floor laughing
Abagail yes it was lovely in killarney, torc waterfall was nice but there was also beautiful mountain drive and coastal scenery
It's entirely debatable on the 'simple' bit, Mike .wink

The bird doesn't lie--it mimics---and whilst I didn't see one on this walk. I have seen them on other walks. They are a beautiful bird.
so very nice I would love to bushwalk there
Hello Leahkathrine,

Thank you for stopping in. I like 'bushwalking' anywhere in the world... I love nature. But I am very fond of the Australian landscape. There is so much more for me to see yet.
Contemplation helps clear the fog of over thinking, then life tastes so much sweeter.
Less is more.
MrWilling... I guess that is what bushwalking for me is, a chance to clear the fog and start anew.
Yes the lyrebird is pretty amazing i was making a bit of a joke although in this case (lyre )in lyrebird is the musical instrument after which its called because of the shape of its tail when they make a display {youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjE0Kdfos4Y
banana wave
OOOPS ill try that again LOL

It's hard not to be impressed by the bird, Mike. I have heard the chainsaw one bit before... it's the camera shutter bit that was new for me. And his impersonation of a kookaburra was very good too.
