Condemned man dies during execution, updated.
A news item today reports on a condemned man who had a heart attack when the "lethal" injection failed to work properly,To my way of thinking this leaves us with several questions -
Should we be executing people in the first place?
Can we not in 2014 come up with a lethal injection that both works & is humane?
When can we expect to see the bastard that raped & murdered an 11 month old girl who was due to be executed two hours later put to death?
UPDATE.
Further details of the days events are now available on the BBC news site for those that haven't already seen them.

You think he would have waited till it was over !
Its an oxymoron. You just either agree with it or you dont.
Personally I dont Zman. I tend to worry if I might one day be the innocent victim.
It´s "An Eye for an Eye, and a Tooth for a Tooth" thing!
In 2014...yeah...? Aren´t we supposed to be "evolved" beings?
I haven´t watched the video. But, the fact that he had a heart attack after finding out that the injection didn´t work, it could mean that he felt guilty and was disappointed as he wanted to die?
Yep, this could also happen.
Maybe you should watch the David Gale story who proved it.
Well, then they should be kept in jail for as long as it is needed and receive psychiatric treatment.
Instead of "death sentence", then it should be "life" emprisonment.
Although it's much cheaper of course for a state to fullfil capital punishment rather than holding a prisoner for a lifetime, I am against any kind of death penalty. I am glad that many people share this opinion. I hope that rules will change soon in all US states.
Now older and seen some of life I have changed my mind. these days 99% certain that some one has committed crime. Maybe just maybe they should find a fail safe way like an animal is well sedated before lethal injection, but I do think of these foul peoples victims what they must have suffered and some a lot longer than him this brings me down to earth were any mercy I may have in my heart.
I wish they would bring it back in our country for a few decades at least an then these murder people may just think twice before doing the act.
Yes yes I hear you all saying it has been proven the death penalty is not a deterant but I just would like that proven again.
I have got to admit I never in a hundred years ever ever think I would agree with death penalty but the horrifc things done as D said these are not even animals. At least they get to choose their last meal
These people have unmercfully killed tortured young children and people for just fun
He later chopped both her arms with a hatchet!
Should I feel compassion or for a "human" treatment for that man?
I think justice went from one extreme to another. Some people had a hell of an existence in their lives but never committed such horrendous crimes.
Of course, it is a complicated subject, but without laws and retribution, society would fall apart.
There is no need to be more human than the inhuman criminals who show great contempt for human life or for law abiding citizens.
Let them earn their keep by working for the common good instead of free loading.
We cage innocent animals, why not cage guilty humans.
You are right Z, we contribute to society by working in a state of servitude, but no one worries about our human rights!
My only question is: Does a person deserve to live when he had taken the live of another person for the sake of a watch or other another item?
When you live in a country with a low murder rate it is easy to talk.
South Africa has roughly 58 murders per day. South Africa had 40.4 murders per 100,000 people during 2006/2007.
Since the death penalty was abolished in South Africa the murder rate has escalated dramatically.
BTW. 94% of all persons released in SA after serving a sentence, immediately become involved in crime again.
This is a social issue....the blind materialism....It be carefully studied and remedied to cure the origin of this madness...there is something wrong basically??
Oversimplification will not do...
