What Is Feminine? What Is Masculine?

Social scientists commonly distinguish between sex and gender. Sex usually refers to the biological differences between men and women whereas gender refers to the social differences society recognizes and treats as significant. Sex covers the biological fact of being man or woman. Gender refers to the social fact of what it means to be masculine and feminine.

Clearly, society’s categories for what is masculine and feminine are unrealistic. All men have some so-called feminine traits, and all women have some so-called masculine traits.

Androgyny
People who express masculine and feminine traits equally are sometimes called androgynous. Among androgynous people, neither masculine nor feminine traits dominate.

Definitions of masculinity (how one is expected to think and behave based on the fact of being male) and femininity (how one is expected to think and behave based on the fact of being female) are social constructions that incorporate historical, political and social dimensions of gender relations.

What are your views on the above?

It is obvious that the roles of men and women in society are changing. What are your views on the changes and their implications?

I think children should be brought up developing their masculine and feminine sides. The gender wars won't stop unless we realize we are all just human beings with strengths and weaknesses that have nothing to do with gender. There is no reason what so ever why men and women should be as prescribed by whoever. The one with the muscles can carry the heavy stuff and the one with the brains can do the complicated thinking. Not all men can be "manly" and not all women "womanly" so why can't we be free to do what we do best without being rejected for not meeting the gender expectations....set by who? dunno

I am surprised by what you have stated re the identical twins. I always viewed identical twins as having identical genes that determined their identical characteristics.
However, a research article from "Psychology Today" indicates that this is not necessarily so due to genetic mutations or copy errors.
It says: "During early fetal development, however, identical twins undergo more than 300 genetic mutations, or copy errors, on average. As human cells divide trillions of times during their lifespan, a few hundred genetic mutations could lead to millions or trillions of genetic differences in the DNA of identical twins over the years."

I must say that I am happy to see a lot of new fathers holding and carrying their babies in public with the mothers walking alongside. This was very unlikely to be seen a generation ago.
nice blog Socrates, you always know I loves yours heart wings love to add, cuz I do have some sweet thinking stuff, but trying lately trying to hide my identity, whether im a female wolf or male rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
Feminine to me is the main characteristics of a womans charm however, not every womans femininity is as prominent. Women can lose their femininity and show a harder, tougher, side not necerssarily masculine as this refers to men . Bein' exposed to Certain lifestyles and experiance's cause a womans femininity to disappear or fade away
and then to me that woman has lost all the nutritional goodness that is most attractive(to a man) in a woman. kiss A womans femininity is her magic and her strength and femininity at it s best is as natural and effortless as watching daffodils blowing in the breeze.daisy daisy daisy daisy kiss

nice to hear from you!
I read in one of your comments on another blog that you have been over 8 months free. I am very happy for you. Just stick with it.
I was looking forward to hearing from you again in my last brain teaser. I even gave some clues to the answers just for you. Perhaps you can look at the information I gave. I expect to post another "teaser" soon.
I believe it is not an easy task to be raising your girls alone. Whether you settle on the identity of a male or female wolf, I see you as an alpha.

"Bein' exposed to Certain lifestyles and experiance's cause a womans femininity to disappear or fade away"
You did not give an example of such experiences. I may be incorrect but I suspect those experiences are probably what are considered "tough", and traditionally have been viewed as a man's role.
However, don't you think that some women are capable of dealing with such experiences and still maintaining their femininity?

I love your last sentence:
"A womans femininity is her magic and her strength and femininity at it s best is as natural and effortless as watching daffodils blowing in the breeze."
It is very poetic.
Perhaps you can write a poem on "Femininity" and post it on Poetry Corner.

Thanks for your comment.
I can see that you are a person of depth.
I agree that when we are fully cognizant of our duality(male/female), then we can experience real love.
Spark Well put.
Socrates My head went off the Blog i think and i was thinking about some politicians here that are women and they are very very tough [not strong ] tough ! they seem to have the negative aspects of masculinity and it is not nice in a woman. No doubt I will be attacked for this but i have never been politically correct. Take our Minister for Social Welfare, she was appalling in her Cuts which effected the old, the genuinely sick, she was one of the hardest and most unlikeable woman, so aggressive at conferences and little empathy, just pure power mad and a need to get to the top, which she has almost done. Take Thatcher in UK.
I am finding it difficult to express what is in my head. Lets just say when a Lily goes off in water.. it smells far far worse than any weed.
