Can Art be defined?

In my opinion art cannot be defined as such. Art is self expression. The more spontaneous you can be, the better. Art basics can be learnt, however it's your own perception that must reflect in your works.

I agree. I look at some of the masters and I know I could do that good. The onlt problem the $million$ inly comes after your long gone!!

...and expression of exactly this individual's perception attracts us to the artworks - it doesn't matter if this is a book, a painting, a film, or music...

Totally agree with you,,i love art,particurlarly drawing and transferring of thoughts via the pencil to paper,art is so diverse and something one person finds appealing may mean nothing to the next person.Some art i view leaves me baffled as to why its so popular,but who are we to argue,,the beholders eye is whats important...uh oh

writetopaint, Very interesting Blog. Friends have said to me, that I live Art. For instance, besides painting, drawing, I go and pick flowers in the Garden, I cannot help it, it is my nature, I get my white French Milk Jug and will spend some time just to get the flowes looking beautiful... My home is a tiny cottage so not tidy with my paints and things... yet, there is a light, a colour mix that people say they love my house.... I am always aware of line and movement and texture, in nature, in everything, so as you say, it is self expression I guess. Twazzle didnt know you painted !!!flirty daisy daisy daisy

Why is art given an elitist status, as it is in the West.
Is it because you need to be wealthy to have enough leisure time to truly appreciate it?
