What happened to us?

What makes you hate me?
Apparently is my color of skin...
Does my ethnicity offend you?

Many times I have heard "white should stick with white"
I am "white"....
But then again when you talk to me you will notice I am the result of my past.

Is is my fault that I was born with this color? With this native tongue that you do not understand?

Perhaps I will agree that most of us are on the defensive but you have to understand how hard it is for someone to be insulted and looked down upon everyday just for how they look.

My background is African, Spaniard and Indian Taino. Indian Tainos were the ones that lived in my land first and then came the Spaniards. They immediately forced the Tainos to work for them and changed their believes and religion. Then the Spaniards brought African slaves to the island when most of the Indians were dying. They procreated African with Indian, Indian with Spaniard, Spaniard with African and so...And that is how I have this color and I speak the way I do, and I am the way I am.

I must admit that your ignorant words have offended me, angered me and even hurt me. That you choose to believe that you are better than me and others...Well I am damn proud of who I am and where I come from. And I hope that the people that experience what I've had can say the same and keep their head held high.

Racism, every day I am confronted by it. Would Would I be a better person if I talk perfect English? Would I be a better person if I wasn't born in my land? Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is the most ridiculous lack of knowledge. Yet we have many great ignorants in this world.

I bet that if you got to know me, you would like me. But your priorities, your preoccupation is on why do I sound funny when I talk. Why do I talk Spanish? Why my skin isn't that white? Why is my hair curly? You will never get to know me because you hate me for how I look and apparently you cannot surpass that. How I look is more important to you than how I am inside.

Racism is stupid. Racism is lack of knowledge and maturity. Racist comments are not funny. When you say openly, publicly a racist comment you will get people offended and rattled. When you say something racist and stupid don't ask me why I get on the defensive. The minute you say something get ready to stand and fight for what you say. Because you will say something and I will have my entire background, my lives experiences and everything that's been going on, to stand up and defend my believes. I will defend who I am and where I come from.

Anyways, just had to get this out. Yesterday was not a good day when on this chat a racist fight began. It was very stupid....Well I just had to say it. I don't see anybody as less superior or superior than me. In my eyes we are all equal and so I want to be treated like such.....Just Peace people, Take Care

what's wrong with the way you talk? i see nothing wrong with it.

i completely understand where you are coming from but will you please listen to what i have to say on the matter?

you know why racism exists is to make themselves out to be better than someone else. it's a shortcut to looking and feeling like their better than someone else.

just because you look a certain way gives people, who lack confidence on their own and need someone to stand on, a need to prove something and feel accomplished in something.

but even without racism you have still people fighting each other.

i noticed you mentioned back when slavery was a new concept in the americas that the spanish were pushing their own religion where it was not wanted or needed.

i only bring that up because fights and wars break out over religion.

sexism is another one. territories. gangs fight each other even though they come from the same ethnic background. like the bloods and the crips for example.

even popularity, as vain and mundane as it is, can prove to be grounds for physical or personal attacks

fighting and hurtfulness will always be there but it is up to the person, the individual, to do the right thing and make sure they don't allow themselves to fall into the same trap as so many around them.

doing the right thing is what is important no matter what you do as long as it's the right thing. that is something you will be judged on (among other things depending on your beliefs) when your time comes for judgement but also in this world a person is judged on the decisions they make and how they handle themselves in adversity.

you did the right thing by establishing where you stand in the matter. be proud of who you are and where you come from. there's nothing wrong with it. but don't force it upon others as you run the risk of falling down to their level. an eye for an eye will leave everyone blind. fight fire with fire and you might burn more people than you mean to.

defend your honor when you have to. display your pride where you can when it's practical and respectable. but don't force someone to see with your eyes. everyone is different, was brought up differently and have come to believe in different things and so doing so may also be grounds for conflict as not everyone will see what you see or understand things the way you do.

it's the nature of the beast.

the only thing you can do is be the best person you can be and carry yourself accordingly and hope that the people in the wrong will see the error of their ways by seeing the good of yours. lead by example. you are your own boss and the only person you should really be proving anything to is yourself so long as it still comes out doing the right thing. that's what builds character.

as for handling those that choose not to do the right thing i say this: you give a fool enough rope and they will eventually hang themselves.

lol! sorry for the long professor but i have way too much to say on the matter!

now who's for cracking open a beer and enjoy the good times?? cheers

What happened to us? Good question. I will with respect give it a whirl.
Racism in America was brought to America with the first Europeans. The native American's who lived here probably had some ideas that we would now be considered racist. These Europeans are the blame for racism here in America.
When people start traveling to other parts of the country/ world, then colonising and conquering and making themselves look superior and from that racism. Now days people who move from there home land to another also fall in to this racism.
Things would have been just fine in America if the government did not take racism so seriously from the very start. Government even in our recent election brought up racism as an issue to divide the American people.
In these recent years racism slurs are no different than some other derogatory remarks about anyone's family, career, and life etc. So, why should those who voice racism recieve special treatment. Doing that brings up trouble. Yes, racism is offensive but there are other derogatory things that are just as offensive.
It is getting to be like a sparked small scale flame war but ultimately it is just another insult. How do you handle this insult...maybe the same as any other derogatory insult.
All around the world racism exists. If we the people around the world learn to rethink for ourselves and have respect, to use principles, values, and trust. We the people around the world can change this.
I am sorry this happened to you. I wish you good luck.

I've been guilty of it in the past, I'm sorry, we should all try to live as one. We are all equal to each other.

It is sad that you have to witness this ignorance. I would not let it touch you this way, let it go, racism is an ignorance of the past and many are now realizing that they can not view people this way. We are all the same both in God's eyes and in any other way.

I too have Spanish blood, but we are not to blame for our ancestors mistakes. All we can do is set an example by looking at the beauty that makes us different and teaching that to our children. We are all beautiful and intelligent in our own way no matter what color or race.

It's also disrespectful to be racist. If someone does not respect you....do not waist your time with them...there are plenty of those whom will respect you for who you are..regardless of color or race.

I have popped into that chat a few times..and all I see is immature communication..so I don't bother.
