Don McLean American Pie
On my way back from the restaurant, I was listening to an interview featuring Don McLean. He was the writer and singer of American Pie. To my surprise it was mentioned there have been colleges that studied the meaning of this song and books have been written about it. McLean essentially said the song was about how America was going the wrong direction. He stated that this song was a new genre of music for its time. He also stated that he considers himself a thinker and his thoughts of the time were put into the lyrics of this song. Even with this most recent interview, he says America is still going in the wrong direction. Aside from all this, he made a statement that got me thinking, and I would like to hear what you think. He said everyone (and he stressed everyone) struggles to keep their sanity. The struggle is a fight that we all must do and continue to do. What do you all think....do you find yourself fighting to keep your sanity?I assume American Pie is about this struggle that America is losing with. .....who knows, it might pertain to more of the world today.
I do not think too many will admit they are struggling to keep their sanity, but, it might be something to think about as well. However, if Mr. McLean is right, maybe that may change some of our perspectives toward others. After all, we are all fighting.

I am not that tech savvy. Perhaps we can get somebody to do it.
Been a Don McLean fan for a long time though American Pie is not one of my favorites.
everyone's head/and he did
For some reason, it really is a catchy tune. He also said in his interview that he wrote the song to only be played on a guitar. He did not want a band to be able to use the song.
American Pie is the only song that I knew he sang. Maybe I should look into what other songs he has.
Thank you for your post.
I thought that was such a bold statement he made, "everyone is struggling to keep their sanity." After hearing his song was studied and books were written about it, I was wondering if there was possibly something to his philosophy.
I have seen some people in life that have appeared to be losing this struggle. But, I wonder if the people who appear completely grounded on their exterior, if they are not suffering from some sort of chaos inside?
Given your response, I am guessing you are losing your fight Robert. j/k...but I do understand what you are saying.
It looks like this song came out near the end or at the end of the Vietnam war. I was just born during this time. Given what I think I know, it seems like that was a very chaotic time. Maybe this song carried extra significant meaning during that time?
Thanks for your post.
Robert....as always, thanks for your post too.
I remember singing this song years ago...and this particular song could certainly be applied to what is happening in the world today...
I agree. Whenever things are looking a little bleak in the world, this song can certainly compliment the mood.
Thanks L.L. for your post.
He was, asked why he called the song American Pie.
To my suprise he said American Pie was the name of the private plane that Buddy Holly charted that ended up crashing with Holly,Valens and the Big Bopper..
Tango
Much prefer this tune from McLean...
Hey, so what's so wrong with chaos? You know, no chaos is overrated.. Chaos is what gives us challenges and fun, Yeah!
Oh well, I'm tired of so much chaos today, so I gotta go back to reading that birds and bees book, still trying to figure out the Rocking Chair position and the other thing they say couples can do with a flour sifter.
You know, I was just told the same thing from somebody else.
lol...maybe I am going crazy? lol I am certain that is what I heard anyway.
Thanks for posting that song. I did listen to it. It seems as if his music comes from a dark place within himself but he sings it in a peaceful nature.
I tend to agree with your position with chaos. It does create challenges for us to overcome. I myself, do not mind a challenge once in a while. For example, I am thinking about using two rocking chairs.
Do you remember seeing that movie Animal House? Do you remember that part where that guy was playing guitar on the stairs of the Frat House.. when suddenly John Belushi couldn't take that song anymore and he pulled the guy's guitar away and smashed it all up against the walls and banister? lol
Well, unfortunately, that's how I feel about that song American Pie.. I understand it's more lyrical, but sheesh, it's just toooo long and boring for me. I gotta change the radio station whenever I hear it.. or I feel like doing a John Belushi.. pulling out the radio and busting it up!
okay, just over-reacting and kidding.. lol
Nothing wrong with that. I've come to learn, not to worry about what other's can do to us, but what can WE DO for ourselves... and how we react and handle things is most important in keeping our sense of humor and insanity! Yeah!
Sssshhh, the secret is Prescriptions. Yeah!
Don't over do it on those. I heard that the liver can get damaged, and certainly do not drink alcohol when on them.
And why is it that when you take an anxiety pill or some kind of pill to relax you.. IT suddenly goes limp.. doesn't want to stand to attention? I just cannot figure why that happens. DARN IT!
I would not know anything about the side effects of any pills. I try to avoid them at all costs.
Now the vacuum cleaner hose for a man. I am guessing a man can clean high areas in the home, vacuum up a small critter, and vacuum their cars out.
Your book sounds like it has some pretty unique ideas. Are you sure that is has been approved fro the general public's eyes?
I got to bed at 5am last night (if you can consider that night) and am a bit tired right now.
Time for me to get some sleep.
Have a good night Robert.
This time I can say to you, thank you for adding fun to the blog.
"Whiskey? Bring us another round, would ya?"
Err, Whiskey, the dog says he will do so right away.
Have a nice night and a cool fun tomorrow.
I give Jesus Christ ALL praise and credit, Amen & Amen!!
