When Will It Stop??
For several years now we have had a Robo person speak at us when the person we called is not answering.I don't know about others but this Robo thing is getting too old. It's the the same ol' thing, i.e., "The person you have called is not available" and then the yak yak begins about pushing this button and then pushing that button and on and on and a button for more options as if I am really impressed with the over long "greeting". But then the clincher. When the Robo person tells you that "you can hang up".
I am getting so tired with this. Phone companies just need to get back to the basics. The number of rings set by the recipient is followed by "(Name), please leave a message and I'll call you back". Period! Things can be simple if these phone companies weren't being so "fancy wancy" (Thanks to Gilda Radner)!!
Give me your peeve about this!! I'll bet there's some good ones!!

My local and long distance calls are free anyhow. All I pay for is having an unlisted number.
Im with lukeon 100% its all about getting money.
I usually ring someone only One or two rings then hang up. then I can ring them or they can ring me back avoiding the robo voice
have not used a land line in years
Are you billed for the time while your robocop is talking?
That can be a reason.
Ed, I avoid using the phone like it carries the plague and not for health related reasons. If you check the company website online many use Skype and waiting for free while you check your emails and such is not for me stressful, or they have an internal message system for customers, which is usually overnight response, and if they only have an email I use that. (I'm on a really strict budget that only works when it's not an emergency). I also found out that many local companies you deal with will ring you if you send them an email requesting it. Here in Australia they do anyway.
I thought years back when they introduced robo call answering, or gathered it out of science fiction pages, their goal was 'when your customer makes that call and at no point during the conversation do they realize that they are really talking to a computer program'. Good in theory but more difficult a task in replication. True AI; Scary thought.
" try to call again, never give up "
Have a blessed Sunday
Maybe in coming years internet via phones will put monopols and will give opportunity to avoid those robo answers.
