3D printers

are a great bit of technology, For the past few years I have been seen some very creative fun uses for what I considered to be toys.
I was however amazed to see this article,

I personally think it to be one of the best uses to date seen to promote their use for anything other than toys.

A tribute to the ingenuity and spirit of Humanity yay

What was the last thing that you seen if ever, That made you proud to be part of the race. comfort ?

Have a great day My friends wave

wave Humanities most noblest invention....the Bicycle.
beer wascheers
I saw that on the news this morning thumbs up great to see tec being used that way beer
pedalguy,
I agree. Although conceptually unchanged the art of the bike has come a long way in its evolution. I was recently surprised when walking into a shop and seeing bikes that cost more than my car with tax and insurance wow
mjpd
The cause of and solution to all of lifes problems laugh cheers
Zman,
Indeed it is bro,
but the sooner they can make a whole woman the better for us men laugh

uh oh I'm kidding of course cheers
Yes I know, Carbon Fibre Frames, and electronic shifting
now adds $5000 US to the price.conversing
heineken ns beer laugh
Did you catch any of the tv series Humans dunno could be interesting wow laugh
Pedal, did you see on the news this week, a new process to make carbon fibre from the excess carbon in the air, could make it cheap as chips, but then we've heard storied like that before doh
I am pleased to see this. I have been following the changes in the designs of these printers for years now. Originally the lower cost units intended for home use were not capable of making precision parts requiring measurements as precise as 0.001 inch. Only the higher cost (US $15,000 and up) were capable of such precision. A second limitation was initially the plastic formulations used were structurally weak and not capable of withstanding much stress or strain. Nor could they withstand high temperature. This limited early use at home models to being used for creating flower vases or decorative attachments for other devices. All of these problems were attacked by different innovators and the improvements in the industry have been notable.

Essentially one sets up the 3D printer, and attaches it to a PC. Into the PC a CAD blueprint of the desired product is loaded and run. The 3d printer then prints the part desired.

New printing formulations are available which are significantly stronger than the earlier plastics and high temperature formulations are also available. The primary reason early machines did not offer precision in manufacturing is because the earlier manufacturers of 3D printers had not expected the average home user to want or need precision, so they didn't build it in to the lower cost units. This has begun to change and around the world now home users of 3D printers are making everything from car engine parts to guns.

Many designs for many objects are available as free CAD downloads via the Internet. Many home users once they have made a CAD blueprint for the machine to follow place their design on the Web so other people can use it. So it is good to see someone coming out with beneficial designs too.
Pedalguy
"electronic shifting" thumbs up
Now that could be a thing of the future if this blogs rising undertone
becomes a reality. laugh

But being serious, How do governing bodies in the cycling sports regulate this tech, surly its looked on the same as performance enhancing drugs dunno
mj
Carlsberg Probably laugh cheers
cheers Nope Newcastle Brownrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
Interesting Ken beer
Did you see how gentle that big panda was with her twin babies could teach a few humans a thing or two. peace peace
Redex,
So not all is black and white in Newcastle then laugh
The International governing body regulates the Pro races.
As an example, for the major Tours, a Bike can not exceed
14.96 lbs. Handlebars, stems etc. have to be within certain
dimensions. Hurtling down Mountains at speeds exceeding 90kph,
one would not want a lighter Bike, as strength becomes a factor.
Yeah Z, Carbon frames are now cheaper to mass produce than
a Chromoly frame now. All of them are produced in Taiwan(mostly)
and China. Gone are the Days of the Italian artisan hand welding
a frame.
Technology degenerates mankind with every advance. There will come a time when our tools are so good that everyone becomes a bad workman and human being by default.
If anything the increasing reliance on technology to simply stay alive is demeaning. A dependent humanity incapable of relying on its own mettle is humiliating to masculine pride. And I wager that 3D printing will blaze new avenues to shamelessness in the same way the internet has.
Obstinance_Works,

Its a good job then that we have you to build our fires buy rubbing leaves together, should the grid ever fall. laugh
@ Obstinance

Should read by not "BUY"
I just hate when my trying to be smart leads to proof of my own stupidity.
