Let there be light

This morning the light bulb at the entrance to my apt was out of service. I decided to modernize and instead of a plain incandescent bulb, I bought a LED type one. The former would cost me around a hundred yen which is around a dollar. In the name of modernization, I paid around 1,500 yen.sigh Not sure if I'm going to save on electricity or it would last longer than 2 yrs. But I like the brightness it gives to the entrance. Anew kind of brightness for the coming New Year. A prosperous New Year to everyone!! Another advanced greetings!!elephant cheering bouquet

Sometime ago, Mythbusters conducted an experiment in which they tried to determine the life of various lighting devices...incandescent, fluorescent, LED.
The LED outlasted all others, and by a wide margin. They eventually had to terminate the experiment, as the LED lasted so long, it was simply taking up too much of the program's production time.
It's good that you're pleased with your LED's light output. You'll probably not have an opportunity to replace it for a long, long time.
And during that time you'll be saving on your electric bill.
Good choice, sez I! applause

@Mic, thanks for being my first poster! Just last month, there was a news release about the phasing out of incandescent and florescent lamps. I've read about the economics of LED lights but I haven't personally witnessed it. From your sharing, I think I made the right decision. As it's wintertime and I'm using electric heaters, I won't notice the difference at all. Besides, I have an 8-day holiday right now. That means staying at home if my son won't come home for the New Year holiday. And staying at home means using more electricity.doh Once again, thanks for being my first. A Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to you!bouquet
I did the same a few months back.thumbs up
But I am sad for my dead electric bicycle because of non availability of the batteries.doh
well done you Led saves on energy and the whole world needs that.
Little things make big differences if everyone did thatapplause applause applause

It'll probably take a few years to get your money back, but for the sake of the planet it's something we'll have to do thumbs up wine

@io, there are LED type of flashlights being sold here that are disposable. Just maybe the one you bought is of that type. Otherwise, why would they sell something whose parts can't be replaced? Thanks for sharing. Or if you mean the batteries of your bike aren't available locally, then that must be made outside India. Surely, the parts could only be available in the country of its origin, I suppose.
@Redex, Iam flattered for having you here. I was almost wondering why only the noted men of CS come to my blogs. grin Christmas lighting here is said to be powered by LED. One of the reasons, I decided to switch to LED. I still have 6 more to go to be totally LED powered. Really, thanks for dropping by.
@Luke, @Io, both of you seems to be so romantic and on the same plane of thinking. One candle and a sweet music to go by between a couple is just so nice. grin
@Z, my dear Z! I was hoping you'll be my first poster!frustrated laugh I read about the Jman who made LED viable. So inspirational to the common Japanese salary man who has to fight odds to claim victory. But then again, credits shld be given too to the company who saw a potential in him and trusted him at the very start.
Yo all the posters, thanks for sharing your thoughts. May the New Year brings joy and peace in our hearts. The One may not come but may we find contentment in all our endevours. Once again, earlier but I wish everyone a Merry New Year. Or a married New Year!!laugh bouquet heart wings
