I am a firm believer that we are a product of our environment; inside the home and the outside world. We then decide what to do with the end product.

Hope that made sense..cus it did in my mind but really didn't translate well into writing LOL. doh

A person's society/environment does play its part in creating ones's character, but is reinforced by one's genetic disposition.

To prevent this from happening Sociological studies have been done and proven that if a child at a young age is removed from the poor environment by means of intervention and placed in a stable societal enviroment, then the child has an opportunity for success in their future as opposed to one who is left in its own environment.

I through my own experience with my young granddaughter have proven this to be true. I took custody of her at 18 months and at which time she was totally out of control. After being together for two years, she is intelligent, well mannered, well behaved and none of the effects of her early up bringing is apparent. She does however suffer with some behavioral/emotional and a sleeping disorder due to the fact that she was born a meth/crack addict baby. She is very attached to me as her Mother, but the positives overrides the negatives. With time and patience she can be a normal productive child and adult. Her circumstances may require her to take medication to control the developmental effects the drugs had on her brain. I was not born with her circumstances, but genetically I am bipolar. With medication I too and functionally normal. She may suffer the same fate, but I have the advantage of being able to recognize the behavioral habits. I am also in a better position to understand why she suffers and how she suffers. As someone who has suffered with it since the age of 11, I can help her through it as a child and an adult.

Her dream is to become doctor. grin

Well, there once was a very clever person who said: Actually all people are a bit like a hard boiled egg:

The yolk represents our basic instincts, like desire for family, love, hunger, attitudes we all share- no matter what race, religion or social shift...

The eggshell is the cultural background, the education you have had, done by your parents & environment...

And the white of the egg, so the biggest part is the outcome, your personality and character, which you have developed and refine steadily till the end of your life.

So - what goes through the hard layer of the shell forms you as an individual person...
And sometimes our cultural shell prevents us from seeing the individual underneath - so... do not try to peel the egg, but knock from time to time wave

I don't think Society/Environment totally shapes one's character. But...if you don't somehow *conform*, life can get very hard. thumbs down dunno
