SOS Advise Please

I thought i sent the wrong forms 3 times and they would not select me but I've just receive a call from the embassy for coming and doing a test tomorrow.

Unfortunately, tomorrow we have to travel on business trip and the embassy only organizes the test once only. they said out of so many applications, they only select a few.... what should i do what should i do?

I love my current job, my boss, my colleagues, the freedom and respect i have but it is so hard to turn away from the tempting and challenging new space...and the States, my dream since i was a student. Oh no, i was happy that they did not call earlier as i thought i failed and no need to struggle myself to take it or leave it. now what should i do? frustrated

I can't leave my boss alone tomorrow as i will feel guilty running after another opportunity and not fulfilling my responsibilities for which i have enjoyed many benefits sigh

But i don't want to let go such a unique opportunity that so many people dream of. doh

OMG what decision should i make now? tomorrow is very near huhu. If you were me what would you do? blues

I think just be totally honest with the boss and they will understand. I saw a terrible story on TV yesterday, people being treated very badly because they are from a poorer country. But follow your dreams.
what if my boss says "go for the opportunity or leave your current job!"? I am still not sure if i can pass all the recruitment rounds or not. I don't mean to stay in the States but just visit it sometimes. so far all the American colleagues have treated me very well...
If you love you current job stay where you are! thumbs up wave
But i like new challenges too and it is the job that many people would love to take. any solutions so that i can both take the test and maintain my current job?
Oh you want your cake and eat it too. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Its your risk you will do what you think, but if it goes horribly wrong take the consequences! wave
Last I can honestly say go for it. I have left many jobs for new experience. If you are good worker in current job they normally have you back if it not work out. I have gone back to old job before. If you don't go you may regret later in life. Be brave my good friend and you will be rewarded. P.s. don't tell your boss any lies. Just say the truth. Then if need to get old job back your boss will know your honest. Daears
But ì i don't get recruited, people at my current job will look down on me sigh
Lasty, go for it! Go for it! The chance may not come again.
If your current boss is angry, don't worry, as daears said, if you are a good worker, he/she will not fire you ( even if the threat is made)
Go and follow your dream! peace
Nobody will look down on you! They will admire you for giving it your best and trying...
Go for it..travel and broaden your knowledge..
I agree with R. Besides they probably just jealous lol. Go for it Last. Do what your heart wishes and make yourself happy. dont try to make others happy and miss out on your opportunity. Do it for yourself.
I told my boss that i have an appointment with doctor tomorrow (I do) and he without hesitation said i should ask for other colleagues' support to replace me in the meeting tomorrow though the quality might be somehow sacrificed. he is so kind, so nice, so good. that makes me feel so bad crying my colleague is also willing to give a hand. they are so good but i am taking advantage of their kindness and thinking of leaving them sigh i feel really guilty, and i am also not sure if i get the job will I go for it or not too doh
Oh gosh Lasty, don't think any of us can help you sort that dilemma out honey.
Just remember, whatever you decide, stop worrying so much about the effect on other people. It shows you are a caring person, if you think like that. But hey, the world will not stop turning around whatever you do! Evryone will be ok!
Just do what you gotta do and stop worrying so much comfort
Last you have done good. Don't feel guilty. You can tell your boss when you know for sure that you got the job. I have my fingers crossed for you beautiful. Good luck. Daears
Thank you friends. thanks to your advice, i stopped my boss and tried to mumble out the difficult question but he started talking before i could ask and now I am free for tomorrow challenge.

Yes you are right, i should stop blaming myself cos i m so tired and headache now and that will not lead to anywhere or change anything. Maybe i should just go with the flow.

At least if i have their sacrifice, i should make the most of it. in case i get the new position but stay with my current organization, they will be proud if i select them to be with.

Anyway, it is just the starting point. maybe i think too much, there are many more rounds to go, I'd better see how far i can go first then decide later stay or leave. no need to struggle myself at this early stage grin
Good girl. That's the way. Just enjoy and be happy.

i have 20 days leave available but the thing is that tomorrow we have important meetings with my boss' bosses from the States and local government departments. the person who replaces me is not really experienced so i wish everything would go well moping
There is a saying a bird in hand is worth far more than 10 in the bush

My understanding of that saying is you should value what you have, not through that away on a maybe...

America probably still be there next time the embassy organizes and invites you to that test. Just send them a note explaining your current employment required your attendance and you need to meet that commitment, could you please residual the appointment.

email that back
yes, you are right, that's what bothers me even when i got my boss' acceptance and that's also what makes me feel guilty and bad too. I treasure pretty much what i have now but can't help being tempted by the new challenges to test my capacity. not because the grass on the other side is greener nor i take the current one for granted. maybe i just take the tests then decide later ...
Yes take the test and decide later, and the very best of luck to you!thumbs up wave
Roll the dicethumbs up Take an unexpected day off. Don't ask,
just tell them I want this day off. To answer their question
why? ...... answer: Personal reasons(the truth). That is not
a reason to dismiss someone imo. (providing you are a punctual
employee to begin with)thumbs up
Choices never come at easy times.

I think P's suggestion is best. If you really feel you can't leave your job in the lurch for a day, you've already made your decision.
Which do you want more? Then do it!! It could be disastrous so think hard!!
LS, hope everything goes well for you...comfort hug bouquet rose
Thank you all bouquet
It is an easy test, i finished in less than 2/3 time and was the 1st one to finish while others still struggling. However, i filled in the wrong places in the answer sheet for listening cos i mixed up the question order. haha. Maybe this job is not meant for me grin
Come to Portugal instead you don't need a test
Lol. Easy come easy go grin
