Too soon to talk about the future? Forget the fight, find peace and common ground?
Brits have a deserved reputation for being whinging poms, and I’m beginning to think we’ll never recover from the division of Brexit. Oh, give us a real crisis, and we’re great, none better, but boy, can we whinge the rest of the time.Americans, on the whole, are much more positive about life, and getting on with whatever it throws at them.
I was watching an interview with Donald Trump tonight and I was taken aback a couple of times by things he said.
This has been the dirtiest knock-down drag-out fight political battle ever fought so I think I was expecting more of the same. Not at all. DT sounded calm and purposeful and even said the Clintons were 'good people'.
What?? No one involved in Brexit has said anything close to rational about opponents YET, and it was ages ago!
Made me wonder. All the anger will be passing soon, the democratic bid will be forgotten, what do Americans want, hope, for their future? Whether they voted or not.
Whatever you thought, the same democratic system which has produced every previous president produced this result and that does mean people want change.
What changes do you want? And - what was good, and should be kept in place?
Not just America will be great - how, what will change?
Not just America should have stayed on the democratic path - why, what do you really want to see kept?
This could be the quietest blog ever written but my blog, my rules.
(1) The election has been fought and it is OVER, no rehashing! (okay, edited comment, that changed a bit. Comment will be retained if it makes a valid point leading to discussion
(2) NO SIDESWIPES, INSULTS, JEERS OR GLOATS. if there is any hatred or contempt in any comment, warning you right now, it will be deleted,
Teach us by example. The UK needs to learn how to work together over Brexit.

But since I wasn't actually expecting a comment at all, and your wish is an excellent one, YES
Was listening to Irish radio this morning, nothing new has been added to my assumptions.
As a European citizen I do not fear too much, but it is more than concerning how the political dealing with the new elected leader of the United States is going to work out for the rest of the world not only Europe.
Anyway he was being conciliatory while we on CS are at war, hopefully not for much longer though
To hell with it. Going to block comments (SPOILSPORT) and make a dash for it past the mouse. If it gets me, hey, been fun knowing you all
This all reminds me of something I heard the lady at the ceramics store say, "You Brexit, you buy it!"
Okay, not funny?
Oh well, I try.
I had a mouse in the back garden
Somehow he died of natural causes
Now I'm kinda wondering what is so noxious in my garden that killed him
Re-opened comments while still not expecting any because what the hell has it got to do with me after all?
I am supposed to be sick in bed. Being sick in chair instead because basically I'm bored with being in bed. Migraines are the pits.
Do you have any Feverfew in your garden? If so, just roll a leaf and eat it in some bread (it is very bitter without the bred), you should feel better after that.
Yet we focus on disaster, on hardship, and on the unfairness of it all when things don't go our way.
That's probably really why I wrote this blog. Nothing to do with politics at all. Just a challenge to see if anyone recognises the good we've got, or do we take that for granted and want it all?
That's pretty good.
There's coffee in the kitchen and food in the pantry when and if I can ever face eating again.
Today is actually amazing.
Tomorrow an asteroid could wipe out half the earth, so what's the point of worrying what else tomorrow could bring? It may never happen. Deal with it when it does.
(ouch. Note to self. Not up to nodding yet)
(you are used to deleting my comments now anyway )
I have a warm house, lovely dogs, good food, and good wine if I want it
I have amazing friends and family
I get to go on holidays at least once a year to warmer climes
I have a car to travel wherever I want to go to.
I live in one of the most beautiful safest countries in the world
I have a job which I enjoy, and don't mind getting up to go to every morning.
And, I am going to a dressy-uppy party on Saturday night so I now have red nails
We will see how it all turns out, I think people all over the world want a change from the old systems, sometimes very corrupt systems in their own countries.
I do not think we winge, I think this country lies on its back until something truly disturbs decency and then they will MARCH
Trouble with the referendom their were no plans for the for and the against, so folk have been wrongfooted.
we will see about this too but they must go forward not back ir the Brits will march not winge
Merkel now is making some noise on concessions with the free movement of people. she would not budge before. She sees Trump what he says about trade with us so well we will see how it plays out.
We are told we will be short of hospitality staff, nurses docs ect, load of bull I say as we will allow people in we need not just have a free for all, for some employers to exploit with low wages etc.
Couple of things people completely ignore when talking about freedom of movement: a significant percentage of immigrants here are not from EU countries to start with - Australians, South Africans, and non EU countries to name but 3.
And as someone who lost her passport in Germany, I can tell you we are not one big happy family with open borders, getting back was a mission!
Take two disprins and sleep it off like a headache.
Yes yes YES people should say what they want going forward. Most of the social media is absolutely and completely preoccupied with the battle and not the aftermath. There is going to be forward progress at some point, ja?
This blog has been remarkably short on positive plans - this will happen, and it will result in this, and that will be GOOD - those sort of comments.
Instead it has in part degenerated into a blog about mice, with just one comment from Ken in what he believes will be an important change, and me agreeing with Red that we want a linked future, but with better negotiated terms.
And now you saying people have the right to their opinions, um, yes. Sort of the point. Now the opinions? I'll only delete if they are negative, hostile, or gloating, I did say so
10c extra is iniquitous, I'd get het up about it on your behalf except, well, doesn't affect me and was only a passing annoyance for you so
Suddenly beginning to understand why people choose to get antsy.
It is a DISGRACE Map had to pay more! People should care about these things!
I care
Full marks for caring, but ...
We have to decide what exactly the problem is
and what the solution should be
Will it involve warfare, or could there be a peaceful solution ?
See, that was easy
Within reason.
I wish I didn't think this would start an exercise in skimming the ragged edge of disaster and twisting my tail
Map, extreme right wingers are at least as dangerous, if not more, than extreme left wingers - because they often have either money and/or religious fervour behind them
Ordinary people often do go up for election, here at least, but people still haven't broken the grip of party politics
Molly, one man one vote? Wow, radical! Do you think it could ever catch on? Government of the people, by the people, for the people??
