Lust & love, they both start with the same letter!
I was talking with my friend the other day discussing love; I explained that most confuse lust with love.
With a puzzled look on his face he said “OK I’ll bite…"
Although… (I’ll call him ‘Bill’ for animosity’s sake, & I apologize to those named Bill for having done so)…
Although Bill is by no means a religious person, I gave him this quote: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”
I went on to explain that ‘lust’ is none of those things, (I should know I am a man after all, I’ve used that as an excuse for having lustful days & nights.) Lust seeks its own desires, its own pleasures and serves no one save itself. Bill retorted, “When you love a woman you lust for her! You want her in the worst way!”
Get a grip Billy! When you’re in love, you do not lust after your woman, your body groans when she is away, your desire for her is increased ten fold your heart is saddened when she is hurting. Your will is to do her good, to see that she is happy, and to do whatever it takes to see that she is above all other women in your life.
Most importantly, she knows all of these things by your actions.
I went on to explain; Lust is short lived and it will end, whereas love never ends because it endures all things, lust does not. Lust is arrogant, it is cruel and it is just plain wrong Billy!
“Lust and love, they both start with the same letter dont' they” my buddy laughed, trying to elude the obvious. “Look Mark, all I want to do is get laid and then, move on.” I directed him to what I had written yesterday, ‘you’re a sick puppy Bill’ I said, and your “lust for love” wont last.
It occurred to me that a majority of men and perhaps women I know not, suffer from the same syndrome “Lust for love” or “Lust is love” I confess, I fell victim to the aforementioned when I was younger. I can’t take all of the blame, and here’s why; from a very young age we sit before the TV, we see unreal beauty from the cartoon era to the adolescent sitcoms, and finally to young adulthood. “Love” is portrayed as lust from the bulging eyes of a cartoon figure when he sees a sexy woman, to the preteen boyish giggles when a young beauty walks by and to the passionate seen of scantly clad men and women between the sheets making ‘love,’ after they just met! Stuff like that does have an effect on young minds and carries into our adult life!
It’s no wonder Bill had it wrong. I am not saying that we should blame it all on TV and the media but you have to admit… ‘Sex’ sells.
