I would go with all of the above as good ideas, but especially the meditation.
There is a listening exercise you can do that definitely helps. It involves listening to(really concentrating on), the sounds in the room, then sounds further and further away. You will only be able to concentrate on sounds for a few seconds at first before the racing thoughts come back but keep persevering and it gets longer, until you hardly have them at all.
Stress causes a lot of anxious thinking and racing thoughts, so try to minimise your stressers in life. I wouldn't reccommend the "staying up late until you are tired" advice as it can often make things worse. Good exercise is a necessity, too, in your day, but never in the evening, as it gives an adernalin rush that is difficult to come down from at bed time.
Accupuncture is good too, as it going to your doctor and having him/her check you out, to make sure you are getting adequate sleep at the right level. People who sleep lightly or snore often have racing thought and fatigue problems.
