Bling-Bling...

Bling-bling aka Bling is the wearing of flashy (expensive often ostentatious) jewelry. Bling can also be the addition of car options, like chrome hood ornaments, oversized tire rims with low-profile tires, literally any means of getting attention, usually to show off wealth.
Note: Wealth and good taste don't necessarily go together.

A friend who I fly model aircraft with, loves to wheel-and-deal (he calls horse trading) helicopters, motors, canopies and hardware upgrades. He scans the merchandise for sale on a few sites always looking for a deal.

Last week, he attended a fun fly and bought a model the owner crashed... really cheap. He was able to take out the working parts, listed them on a site and doubled his money selling the parts individually.

He's become an expert knowing what models can be modified and often builds for friends. In the last few years, he's repaired or built a few models for me. He owns a machine that cuts templates by computer control. He feeds an image in his computer and the machine using a thin blade cuts out custom signage and logos on colored sticky-back sheets.

Some of the flyers go to him to add some Bling to their models. Maybe a larger logo or wrapping parts with multi colors. Lets say the canopy is red with white stripes, he can customize the sides, boom and tail fins with matching graphics to the owner's specification.

I dislike building, so it was easier to buy a completed model from him customized to my specifications and while we don't normally use the term Bling, I Blinged-out one model with bright yellow to make it easier to see when it's far away.

Bling-Bling... happening in a city near you!

If the clothes fit, wear 'em...

I buy Jeans size 36x30 and had that size for years. When my weight goes below 200 pounds, they get too loose and I keep pulling my pants up. I dislike belts and suspenders aren't in this time-zone. Some my my pants with the same size fit differently. Recently, I went through and pulled a few pairs marked the same, but way too tight!

I bought 2 pairs of 36x30 jeans last week and got around to trying them on last night... I could swim in them so they have to be returned and next time, I'll actually try them on in the store to confirm they fit correctly.

Last summer, I wanted to buy some shorts. Real shorts. I've expressed my dislike for the knee length cargo shorts, but sometimes that's all that's available and I go without. I blogged about some worn out white shorts that had holes in them, but that blog disappeared.

Walking by the women's wear, I found shorts that were the length of the tennis shorts I wore years ago. I pulled a size 18, held them to my waist and said, yeah, they should fit, but I was wrong. Too big. Next time back, I bought a size 14 and they were kinda loose. Okay, it's size 12 and that worked, so I went back to buy 2 more shorts in ladies size 12.

I've heard stories where garment manufacturers lie about women's sizes so when a woman who wore size 9 when she got married, is now a size 20, feels 'a whole lot better' about herself if the label is 14 and fits kinda loose. I get that picture.

So forget the number, if the clothes fit, wear 'em...

Elements in design: Cartouche...

Cartouche... now that's a word that sounds vulgar, doesn't it? Maybe something Freddy Mercury would have shouted to the audience. For the Egyptians, it was an artistic impression or a plaque and not to be confused with dental plaque. In architecture, it's often a medallion with a bunch of scrolly shit surrounding it.
Why the blog?
I'm doing cabinets for a 7 bedroom house that consists of kitchen rework, bar, butlers pantry, laundry, closets and bathrooms. They want to salvage an old wall unit that's floor to ceiling and bout 20 feet long. It's adorned with lots of carvings and cartouches on the doors and panels. Personally, I think it's hideous, grossly outdated and needs to be torn out and replaced.
I wasn't asked to price a replacement. I was asked to remove the cartouches, modify doors and panels and overlap a panel to front mount a 55 inch TV that was designed for 42 inches. No can do. I graciously declined as I have no manpower talented enough to do a miracle.
In a former life, I've transformed basic square niches into 'dome style' cartouche units for statues or waterfalls. Those scrolly things were made from fiberglass and purchased in the right size to fit the openings. The end result would have been called 'timeless' but they had no idea that two generations later, everything would be contemporary.

Dominant Jean...

I've been known to wear clothes until they are rags. Polo shirts for work date back to companies I was with 20 years ago and they don't go to waste as they become cleaning rags for car polishing (note to self, polish car this weekend) but my Jeans are a different story as they have zippers and snap-buttons. It's rare, but when a zipper breaks and I'm not able to repair it, the cost of having a seamstress replace the zipper is usually more than buying a new pair of jeans.
Those Jeans with broken zippers have been placed in clothing donation bins for recycle so someone can decide what to do with them.

When the snap breaks, I've been known to sew on a button, but the stress it too great and the button often comes loose. So, there have been several favorite Jeans of mine, stacked on a chair in the closet that are missing snaps.

Amazon sells replacement snap button kits in 2 different styles.
The first having to punch a hole where the back part gets hammered into the front. The other style uses a small flat screw to attach the button. I chose the one with the screw and it works perfectly!

Now, one of my favorite Jeans is wearable again and it's correct to refer to it as the Dominant Jean.

Thanks for reading my blog...

Watches

I know watches aren't worn as much in today's society due to people deciding to get their time off their cell phones. I think most to these types are probably Generation Y (also known as Millennials - Born between 1982-2000), and some in Generation Z (born between 2000-.2018).

Some in my generation (X) have stopped wearing watches, and instead depend on their phones for the time as well. Not me, I still prefer wearing a watch. You can say that I'm particular (some would say fussy) about the type of watch I like to have and wear. I have three different kinds that I alternate between. Down below are the watches I have.

If you're still into wearing a watch, feel free to share what type and/or the pic of what it looks like.

As for my Fuchsia color watch, some at work have fun with me and call it pink. laugh But then, my ex did too, so...

"Man purse"

About two years ago I bought my a tiger tote bag to carry my stuff in, including my lunch when I go to work. Of course I had a lot of people like it, and then those that I'm friends with razz me about it calling this my "man purse". rolling on the floor laughing

Of course I have a sense of humor enough to just laugh it off, because it was funny. It also had reminded me of an episode of Seinfeld.

But ya know, call it what you want, but it was nice to be able to throw anything I needed into it, just like a woman would do.

4 eyebrows... another tattoo fail

A woman in Thailand decides to have her eyebrows tattooed.
I've heard of this before. Asian women often do this because their eyebrows have thin hair. The tattoo is to darken the natural lines so they don't require daily cosmetics.
She went to a budget tattoo artist and didn't get the expected results.

The 2nd set of eyebrows were above the real ones having the appearance of 4 eyebrows. The woman complained to the artist who said he would remove them, but that didn't happen as the next day the clinic had closed down.

It's reported the woman hid away for a year until she could find another artist to fix her eyebrows... for free.

Video in Thai, but you can get the gist of what's happening.

STOCKINGS, TIGHTS OR TATTOOS OR NOTHING?

Do you guys prefer to see women in tights, stockings, tattoos or perhaps bare legs? Or maybe legs that are not exposed at all? Is it a question of what suits the wearer and the length of skirt or dress?
