I thank you for the compliment, but you should know that all the REALLY beautiful girls are supposed to wear a VERY shirt skirt and be as skinny as possible (but still with big boobs and behind). They also should NOT be serious, independent or politely reserved with complete strangers. Sorry for my sarcastic language, I've just really had it for right now. I've been teased for my "Titanic" style more than once, and told that I'll NEVER find a husband if I keep being the way I am, and I am beginning to see where they were absolutely right. Trouble is, I do NOT wish to change who I am. So, the only other thing left is to change my goals and stop pursuing a project that is clearly not working.

P.S. It's not like I don't meet anyone that would really capture my interest - I sure do, but either those people are too far, or currently unavailable for whatever reasons, OR, being the interesting, clever, well-read, funny, broad-minded and amazing men, they still choose what's normal and typical (and will be immediately approved by their buddies), and I can't really blame them.

Actually you are quite right, if I were a man, I would have been long married to the most amazing lady in the world, cos I would have been very proactive and confident, I would know how to approach a lady the right way, when and how to start courting her, etc.

Wow, thanks everyone for such an interesting discussion.

Getting back to what I posted in the initial post, I have made the decision to look into gay men for the time being, as well as straight and/or lesbian women. After all, I really need a great friend first and foremost, someone who will accept me for what I am and will be fun to spend time with. I have lots of things piled up that are REALLY not so much fun all alone (at least 3 trips to the movies, a night trip to the observatory to look at the stars, etc); so if straight men are so incompatible with me (and the ones that would be, are not interested in me due to me not being a 'model' to show off), I'll simply look elsewhere.

That is quite an interesting poll, I can't decide yet where to cast my vote. rolling eyes wink

But I did just learn a new word for me - craic - now I know what it means. Thanks!

As for the original question, I am not particularly shy on here, no. I don't have the time to sit around and be shy, I turn 30 tomorrow! laugh

I like interesting ones, where the person is doing something that is their hobby, work or whatever. Otherwise I have nothing to refer to if I decide to message them - I wouldn't email them saying "wow, you have such a cute nose", would I? laugh

Well, I meant it more like - maybe it's time to try a different approach - sort of like Winnie-the-Pooh, when he was trying to find the way home through the forest, he was getting lost all the time, but when he decided to try to wander off, he got on the right path leading home... laugh

All these months, in every one of the 500+ chats (? I've really lost count, but there've been loads) with members of the opposite sex, I have tried to present myself as honestly and truthfully as I could. Nothing has ever worked out and I always ended up blamed for being "too serious" (though I LOVE to laugh), "too cold" (though I am warm and caring) or "too independent" (though I am here to find someone to depend on).

I think from now on I will start saying things I DO NOT mean, giving responses that I do not believe are true, providing corrupt and untrue information about my life, family, background, job, interests and so on. Maybe then I'll find someone at last. In this weird and illogical world, perhaps it really doesn't pay off to be "honest" and "true". confused laugh

Well, yesterday I spent most of the day cleaning the house/sorting scraps of paper with useful phone numbers and ideas scribbled on them; then took the dogs to the forest nearby (1.5 minute's drive from the house) and was lucky to pick some mushrooms for a yummy dinner.

Today spent most of the day in the field assisting training dogs (not mine, as my girl is in heat), we did LOADS in the field today... both with retrievers and with pointers, and a couple of spaniels too.

Then came back home, called my co-worker and drove to their place (7 min from us) to take a beautiful walk in their woods. His girlfriend and me (and my doggies of course) literally dove into the woods and picked a decently sized bag of mushrooms!! (chanterelles again) They're cooking in the pan right now. laugh

I'm pleasantly wiped out. laugh

My weakness is that I have to make a list if I don't want to forget something. Basically they are to-do lists, and it does help. My colleague laughs every time he tells me to do something - "see, I'm not giving you more than 3 things at a time"! That is perfect truth with me. I also sometimes have trouble remembering names of people I've just been introduced to, except if they are really unusual ones.

I'm afraid CS is neither my hobby nor interest.... It's a mere necessity, for the time being. laugh

Neither is TV, I don't own one. dunno

Looks open the door

Agreed. And they matter to me too - when I see a pic of a guy on here, I check if he LOOKS like he might be an interesting person to talk to rolling on the floor laughing And I do the same with all people, in real life too - I try to evaluate if they look like they have an interesting "inside". Problem is, in many, many cases my judgements are totally off, which I clearly see once we start talking. So I really don't judge by that anymore.

Other than that, if there was a fantastic person, a wonderful match for me, but e.g. he was way too fat, I hope I'd inspire him to go jogging etc.; I'm really not choosing a puppy or a stud, so I am not guided by any standards. Moreover, because I practically don't notice details (in evaluating dogs, I help myself by filling out a special table/questionnaire), any random man that I ever liked solely for his appearance (e.g. actors), was only because he gave the overall impression of being very 'manly' in every possible way rolling eyes (and therefore, in my mind, could make a great partner).

I'd imagine that men too, when they say "looks matter", don't ALL imagine the very same models from the cover of Cosmopolitan (or whatever).

Perhaps it is difficult to understand for people who have an American culture but one place or thing or culture or food or woman or whatever you like does not necessary have to be better than an other one, if you know what I mean.

I so agree with EnSilencio and Palermoboy...

I have never been to the USA, but have talked and met enough people from there.

Personally I don't see what's so exciting about California - I'm afraid I'm the exact opposite of "Aunt Pearl" (from the "Beverly Hillbillies") who wanted to move to Ca-li-for-nee just to have "movie stars" as neighbours. rolling eyes laugh

I love Europe because it's so vast, so old and so genuine - when I go to Germany, I meet real Germans, Italy - Italians, etc... I'd imagine in America, everywhere you drive you only really meet Americans (ok, different ethnical background, but still dye-hard Americans), and that may get a bit boring? The same nation, carriers of the same language, same culture... Just very many of them. dunno

I am useless at political, economical or historical debates, and I respect and appreciate America for what it is, but my heart is in Europe heart (at least at this point in my life).
