Okay, here’s the deal …. my daughters went to stay in another state with my sister for what was supposed to be a two week vacation. The plan was that they were coming home this weekend. Last night I get a call about 8:30 p.m. informing me that they don’t want to come back. Now, I completely understand not wanting to come back to Iowa – heck I’ve been talking about moving myself. What pissed me off about the whole thing is that I feel like I got ambushed with them waiting until the last minute and then THEY didn’t even talk to me about it – left it to my sister to tell me. Not quite sure what to do now. They will be 18 in about 2 ½ months. Seems my options are:
1. I can tell them they HAVE to come home and can’t move until they have actually reached 18 in which case we will probably spend the next couple of months at each other’s throats.
2. I can say yeah, sure, whatever you want. You go right ahead and stay and I’ll figure out what to do with all of you stuff here.
3. I can talk to them and explain that they really need to come back at least for a few weeks and sort through all their stuff to decide what to get rid of and what they want to take with them, give proper notice to their employer, and say goodbye to friends here.
Having had a chance to calm down since last night, I’m leaning toward option 3. Anybody have any other ideas I haven’t thought of yet (short of bodily injury, that is – believe me, I considered it last night)? Appreciate any comments.
Thanks!
