--- For the last 35 yrs my trips to the dentist have been and exercise in looking at pain- I have not used anesthetic .fillings/root canal replacement of toxic amalgam etc
I have noticed through discussion and total understanding of the procedure to be undertaken And limited communication, during ie eyes ,groans the dentist takes more care . Also the small amount of pain experienced is short lived much more so than the uncomfortable possibly toxic injections and their aftermath

The ridiculous thing is I recently needed an extraction for this yes my bravery waned and I accepted anesthetic--- yep ! you guessed it --- wrong tooth
