areyoureadytogo: well i personally think it was the banks who got the country in this mess!!ok if anyone went to the bank 3 years ago for a loan they would hand out the money and extra along with it,go to see them now your lucky to get anything off them probably nothing.ok i do feel sorry for people who are out their and are struggling to pay for mortgages or pay for the children up bringing but what do you get for complaining???life goes on and we just have to put up with happens in the future every other country is in the same situation its just not Ireland.
also i personally think everyone is too well off in this country and we can do nothing but only complain that's all we are good at,but look at the 3 rd world loads of kids dying everyday families with no water, food, house over the head or no electricty

Good point. I'll probably get crucified for saying this but i think the one good thing about this recession is that it will teach people to realise how lucky they are not take things for granted. During the boom times, a lot of irish people thought they were too good for certain jobs so you had the foreign nationals coming in to do the jobs the irish didn't want. Now jobs are scarce, people are learning to take what they can get....JMO

robpacciani: agreed there, but what im saying is that he is being singled out!! if people are angry, hey should arrive at the bankers houses and bash em!! otherwise, nothing else will or can happen to anyone else

I don't think "banker bashing" is the answer somehow rolling on the floor laughing

DUBLINGUY1973: Ordinarily I'd agree with you but the difference being footballers wages are not paid for by the irish tax payer. Pat Kenny's wage is through the tv licence fee. I can see how some people would feel disgruntled having to pay that kinda money for a tv licence and then you see the likes of Pat Kenny on huge wages. In fairness, only €600,000 a year is more than most people make in ten or twenty years. You wouldn't mind so much if you were getting value for money but you're not. Anyway getting back to the topic, yeah he is very good at his job but in hard times, people are going to find it hard seeing him earning that much when they are struggling to make ends meet....JMO

Its obviously not his fault the country is in a mess and I don't blame the guy. Fair play to him if he is earning that kinda money but like i said, when most people are struggling, its hard to justify paying your tv licence fee just to see someone coming out with that kinda money. Its a bit of a kick in the teeth for a lot of people.....IMO

robpacciani: pat kenny was only doing his job, and its not up to him how much he gets paid!!! RTE offer him a contract.. in my opinion, if you compare pat kenny to professional footballers, the footballers are getting far more than him!!! gerry ryan gets paid just as much if not more than kenny, tubridy aint far off either.. so singling out pat kenny was wrong as he was just doing his job which was talking about the social welfare!!

FriendlyFeline: Depends on the mood, this evening it was Ginger Nuts. Sometimes it can be Chocolate Hobnobs, other times a Custard Cream.

As long as it can be dunked into a cuppa I'm happy.

**Exception to that rule are those smelly Rasberry biscuits.

scriobhneoir: I know I'm biased but I think he was/is very over rated. Yes he has fancy footwork and he scores a few goals (many of which are from free kicks that he won by diving) but soccer is about much more than that. He has no work ethic, he dives, cheats and whinges his way through matches. he is not even in the same stratisphere as best and Cantona in my opinion. I still can't figure out the best player in the world thing. If you were being generous you could make an argument for top 5, but number 1? Forget it. The only way that Ronaldo should be compared to Best in my opinion is that like Best in his heyday, he'd get up on a gust of wind.

I have to agree with Kev here. He scores a few goals? 41 goals in a season is way more than a few. Give the guy some credit even if he is a united player and you hate united. Ronaldo is quick, he never stops practicing even after all the other lads have gone home so i don't know how you can say he has no worth ethic. The only player i have ever seen to work harder than Ronaldo last season was Rooney.

I think Ronaldo deserves to be compared to Best, Cantona and Beckham. As for world player of the year, lets not forget he won the European Cup with United that season. That's usually a huge factor in deciding who wins World Player of the year. Like i said, scoring 41 goals is no mean feat either. I guarantee if the same player played for Liverpool and acted in the exact same manner, you would be comparing him to Daglish and all the other great number 7s Liverpool have had.

Oh and as for diving, its funny how Drogba is just bad if not worse but yet he gets very little stick. As regards quality though, he couldn't even lace Ronaldo's boots nor has he won nearly amount of honors or personal accolades.

scriobhneoir: Arsenal are brilliant Leisure, but they were brilliant two years ago too and choked. I just don't trust them to keep their form going. I hope I'm wrong though. Of the teams that could still realistically win the league i would prefer to see either Man City or Arsenal do it.

I think Arsenal could actually finish third this season or maybe even higher. I know they usually choke but they seem to be playing exceptionally well lately so maybe their young players are finally coming of age.

As for Rafa, I think if Liverpool could afford to sack him, he'd be gone by now.

Malinga: I've been told that the Irish fiercely love their Country and their beer- in which order I do not know!

I am also told that when the lads get together for a drink, they start off with a rousing rendition of "It's a long way from Tipperary" and after a few beers its a roistering "It's the wrong place to tickle Mary"...
Any comments.....

Yeah and we all have red hair and freckles, we love to dress in green everyday and the biggest tourist attraction in Ireland is the leprauchan petting zoo roll eyes doh

Clone: Why are you taking this sooo serious? From what I can gather this was a light hearted thread and not a gender debate.

But Nvosiris is right in stateing that men and women interact differently. Not all men think with their little willys and I dont think N was implying that they did.

Look I have never spoken to you before and am not arguing with you but just think you are being a bit harsh to Nvoiris.
Ive met her and she is a pretty smart and inteeligent lady.

I can understand your fustration in regards to womans reactions to men but its part and parcel of the battle of the sexes

DUBLINGUY1973: Well put

I've never seen Chubby Brown live but saw him on DVD a few times and some of his jokes are funny but some of them are just gross. I'm no prude but most comedians seem to have common sense and know what material not to use. Chubby Brown is different. He can be a bit OTT sometimes. I definitely wouldn't pay money to go and see him and if i did, i wouldn't bring someone who was easily offended....JMO.

scriobhneoir: To be honest I never saw his routine so I can't really comment. I have heard him mentioned in the same mode as Bernard manning though, who I think was a horrid cretin with no talent for anything except being a racist bollox.

Can't comment on Chubby Brown himself, but that 1970s "I'm about as funny as a terminal illness, so I'll cover it up by appealing to the lowest commom denominator" shite, really annoys me.

Only very few comedians can tackle things that close to the bone without just sounding like ignorant twats. Frankie Boyle is one of them. he told some jokes on his DVD and on Mock the week that made me feel uncomfortable, but he is able to pull it off and can take the mick out of anyone quite indiscriminately. Unlike a lot of these 'working man's clubs' gutter comedians.
