3/4 Irish and 1/4 French ....father's ancestors were Irish, mother's mother's family French and mother's father's family Irish. Dad sure made sure we knew how much Irish we had in us. Irish last name and first name (Kathleen), after all he named me. grin

Manda, the lost of life is something we never really forget about. The pain softens as the years past. We forgive ourselves for selfishly wanting to keep that person in our life and move on with life. Mourning is part of the forgiving ourselves and realizing that the person will always be part of us, because of the impact their life had on us.

Suicide is definitely harder on the ones left behind. The ones left behind often think it was something they did, it is not. There is often no closure or understanding of why the person took their own life. Often the ones left behind wonder why they did not see any signs, many of times in a successful suicide there aren't any. The sad fact is that most successful suicides have no warning signs. The person seemed so strong on the outside, but they were not on the inside and did not seek help or know how to seek help without leaving their secret desire out.

Hugs Manda, I wish there was a easy way for you to handle the lost of a close friend. You might have to be the strong one and get everyone that was friends with the two of you and have a group counseling session. You could choose not to have doctor there, but it would be a way for everyone involved to let their emotions out by talking about the lost friend. Maybe everyone bring a favorite picture of the lost friend and themselves to share and talk about when the photo was taken or a favorite story of their friendship. This time could bring closure as a way of saying goodbye and for your friend to live on in loving memory. sad flower

The only thing worst is sitting in over 50 miles of traffic like that to save you life and running out of gas!

Generally the drugs and guns go together. Then next it is the gangs. The young think of it more like a game then anything else. Here is a example: A 16 year old sitting in jail for car-jacking, told me all he did was take the man's wallet. I asked did he have a gun, the 16 y.o. answered that he did but did not shoot and that the guys he was with took the man's car. All this 16 y.o. could think of way he stole a wallet because he needed money.

Daily I run into this, the young people involved with guns and drugs don't really understand they are doing anything wrong. They are undereducated, and raised with no Morales. When I worked a dormitory with 96 inmates, only one male graduated from high school, the rest dropped out. Most can't spell, read, or write enough to save their own life. They have to literally ask for help to fill out a request for medical help.

Who do we fault, the education system, the parents, or society for classifying them as throw aways? How do we help and change this is the hard one to answer. We have to reach them very young, we have to change the way we look at the kids. We have to start before they are old enough to start skipping school. We have to show them that we will work together to watch over them and check on them. We have to show them there is a better way to life.

I work a jail and try to talk to them in their terms. I find that mostly no one got down to their level of thinking and made them understand that every action has a reaction. I am lucky when I am able to reach one and make them understand there is a better way to live and have their kids live then inside of the prison system. It is a sad fact that the jail and prison system is just considered a reunion of family and friends from the neighborhood.

This touches every neighborhood, how do I know, I have seen some of the neighbor's kids in the jail. Parents doing drugs to relax, one parent on drug, the other dealing. Now the kids are dealing because they don't see it as wrong, they are carrying on a family tradition. How did I survive, I cut off people, learned how to walk away from these people before they dragged me into their game. I was taught young right from wrong, how to walk away for danger and make new friends to go in a different direction then them.

To tell you the truth a third of the people I grew up with are in their graves, a third are in prison, and that leaves a third of us just surviving and making a living the right way. There is no easy answer to your question.

Start talking to the ones involved in the dealing drugs life style. Realize it is not about the drugs, but what the profits from it can buy is the reason most are getting into them. People are looking toward the fast track instead of the long hard one of working a regular job for living. They see selling drugs as a service to those using them.

For users, it is the stress of everyday living. They are looking for an escape, a easy high. A lot of people are going no where with their life and will do drugs to escape the feeling of low self-esteem. Some that have money first start because they want to be part of the popular crowd then gets hooked on them. Even when the person realizes what drugs are doing to their life, they are so hooked on them that they have trouble taking action to get off of them. Those that get off of them will always have the craving for them and will have a daily battle to stay off of them.

He could have had a crush on you. But at dinner he figured out it would never work and did not ask know how to ask you if you knew someone that would be good for him to date. He seemed to appreciate the advice that you gave to him earlier and still looks to you for personal advice. His actions say that he is not as mature thinking as you are.

What do you think ?
Yes, they can be good for you. It gives you a chance to talk with other without the judgement calls on your looks or background.

Do they cause concerns ?
Sometimes you will come across a scammer, but you will run into them in real life. On the internet you have the option to cut ties quickly by blocking them. Just read the page on scammers that they have and pay attention to it.

Do people live up to the expectations of a friendship ?
Yes, they can live up to expectations, because they are there mostly for the same reasons you are. The world can be a lonely place sometimes and it is good to be able to communicate with others. Look at snail mail, many people have friendships that are just penpals.

Can it be as good as real ?
Yes, it can be as good as real. You will find support in it. Sometimes you have even meet the person for real and find you have a real friend in the real world as well as on the internet.

hug yay

Yes you did right, you deserve better then to be used like a door mat. I think a relationship should be a partnership where both put their best foot forward to make it work.

to the original post, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Someone may not appear beautiful or attractive to you may appear to be just that to someone else. Also most people are looking for what is inside not just the outside as in the old saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover." We must all remember this when dating, because we could pass up on someone that might be fantastic to know.

Well, I don't remember which one it was. I guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board to find out which one is my favorite. No telling how much research it will take before I can answer that question.grin
