So again, I ask... what would you do to solve this colossal mess other than what they're doing?
The root of the current economic crisis is the fact that all production of real goods is being outsourced to other countries. This not only needs to stop, it needs to be reversed. BTJB - Bring The Jobs Back!
The problem is that it's beneficial to corporate profits to hire some Asian kid for $10 a week. What the government needs to do is change this. Make it more profitable to produce things here in the good US of A than it is to employ "slave labor."
One "quick and dirty" way is significant import tariffs. If it costs (pulling a number out of the air) $30 to import each and ever pair of sneakers, they'll quickly find out they can make them for less right here.
As a benefit, companies based outside the US would also be effected by these tariffs. It wouldn't be long before THEY realize it would be cheaper to open an American plant than to ship it here.
These tariffs would be a shot in the arm for federal revenue. It could be used to finance programs that put even more Americans to work.
But... I know this idea will not be received well... and I don't expect it to be.
