wonderworker: I've lived all over but always considered East Tn. home. Now we have a generation of transplanted retirees, land speculaters, and refugees from the failing industrial north where I spent 11 years freezing my ass off as a kid.
What should we call our new Tennesseans?Yankee seems worn-out and unoriginal. they aren't really Yankees anyway, but mid-westerners for the most part.
I remember what they called us....but we are above that.
I am TOTALLY comfortable with the term "hillbillies!" despite Hollywood's representation of us!
It distresses me that so MANY of those who have so recently become East Tennesseans are (seemingly) unrelated to the very past that You and I hold DEAR!
In my mind, the term "Tennessee Volunteer/Hillbilly" is ENTIRELY appropriate, regardless of one's heritage! It is
STRICTLY dependent on one's ATTITUDE!!!
North or South (East or West), makes NO difference to me! WHY, Wonderworker, do you think the industrial North
FAILED??!! (Mayhap because their
PLAN failed??)
I am FIRST a fellow East Tennessean, and...secondly...an American! My husband (a Midwestern cowboy-turned Southerner) and I would BOTH defend the rights of the U.S. first, and the Grand and glorious STATE OF TENNESSEE second, against WHAT-/WHO-EVER DARED to challenge her!
Happy weekend, my friend!

(Now, where in the Hell is that Rebel flag emote??)
(And, dare I say, "viva la revolution!!" "Abreuve nos sillons aux citroian, formez la batallion! Marche on, marche on!....")
"Bon soir, mon ami!"
