SweetFallenStar: please could you tell me what is so wrong with my profile? I just dont get it....Am I ugly and dont know it??? I think Im cute... I would like honest opinions .....

"Neighbor:"

To answer your question, no, you are not at all unattractive! My first thought upon reading your profile is that it is self-centered in that you don't describe yourself or what (who?) you want to meet; you sound self-sufficient and "fine."

Don't be worried about posting what you are/believe/think, participate in the forums, and keep the faith! Met my hubby here almost 3 years ago now! He's the finest thing who ever happened to me, but we lived about 800 miles apart on 1/3/07!

Now, we've been married 2+ years because we "let go and let God!!"

Others who've met here would probably tell you the same!

Happy Sunday, girl!

very happy

Jackson: He's not exaggerating! Last year at the Christmas party, okra and mac & cheese were indeed on the menu!

We've had a few giggles about that, despite the fact that I'm Southern by birth (the grace of God?)!!

Long live rednecks and their mid-Western/Western counterparts!

Happy Sunday to all!

OK, "OOPS!!!" Have replied more than once to this thread! See what old age will do to ya? doh

Jackson: I concur that this is an incredible work of literary fiction! John is being humble here but Islander is a fabulous read full of emotion and life. You'll miss the characters when you've finished this one!

Literary pieces are not my preferred genre, but this one gets a definite thumbs up!

J

Found this description of Islander as written by John Tullock, formerly Barnes & Nobel. Since I've not written promos before, Tullock better describes the novel:

"Does the experience of personal tragedy leave us better prepared to comfort others? Can true love conquer all forms of adversity? Author John Baird explores these questions in his new novel, Islander, from Publish America. With unique insight, Baird weaves a tale of loss, abandonment and, ultimately, redemption in this feast for the lover of literary fiction.

After everything he ever cared about is taken from him, the Islander lives alone, seldom venturing out except to seek solace amid the shelves and tomes of a bookstore. There he meets a woman who will lead him back into the light, until fate intervenes once more in their lives.

Rich with imagery in the best traditions of the gothic romantic style, Islander takes the reader from the wilderness of Alaska to the hollows of the Southern Appalachians, with a cast of unforgettable characters. The resourceful and multi-talented Grover, who adopts the orphaned Islander, will touch your heart with his quiet wisdom. You will recoil from Lucy, the deranged, sardonic witch, who makes life miserable for everyone she encounters.

With the release of Islander, Baird has bestowed upon lucky readers a first novel with the riveting narrative and evocative language of a seasoned literary talent."

Thanks to Mr. Tullock for this better and more appropos description of Islander!
teddybear thanks

wonderworker: I have long assumed that this was not the place to promote a commercial venture.
But three times now I have seen members pitch their music in blogs or forums.Notably today.
As you know I have made myself conspicuous over the last several months--not to sell a book but to be visable to the woman who is looking for me.

A few CS members have read my Fiction and a few others have asked about it,for which I am appreciative.I finally blogged it but have not posted any hype.
If you like my approach to the forums{well, some of them]you might enjoy my novel.
The work is called "ISLANDER" See the cover art and summary at the publisher's site.
.....www.publishamerica.com

Should this be pulled I will understand.
Thanks to all for your interest in my humble efforts to braid together wonder-words.

But I have been the Teller.....more than once.
Have you?
Surreal.
I want to know what you know about it.
Maybe I should appologize for morbid threads?
Nah

If anybody wonders what it's like to be "the Teller," I suggest they read the recently published novel, Islander! It is a tale (told from the "teller's" side), and it is quite captivating in many respects!

Seriously, WW, I only know that being the Teller must suck! Am sure that my day in that capacity is coming. I do not look forward to it eagerly. moping

Sheriff Joe: click here to read the entire thread »

Jackson Powell, Tennessee USA
In response to: This is from an email that I received on Sherif Joe Arpaio. If you are not familiar with him, he is the Maricopa County Sheriff in Arizona.

He is well known for painting the jail cells pink and making the inmates wear PINK prison garb.

Info:
Maricopa County was spending approx. $18 million dollars a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over , and the County Supervisors said okay,

The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.

The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. The cost to adopt an animal is $78.00. It includes the animal being neutered, vaccines, good health, and a microchip.

The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an jour for working, but most would work or free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.

Sheriff Joe also has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.

He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 -$8 for the holidays, and plant it later.

Sheriff Joe created the 'Tent City Jail.' He has jail meals down to .40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights and cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails, so he hooked up the cable Tv again and only let in the Disney Channel and The Weather Channel.

When asked why the weather channel, he replied, "So they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs."

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz Carlton....If you don't like it, don't come back."

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees), the associated press reported: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued Pink boxer shorts.

Hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their PINK socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said one of the inmates who has lived in the tents for 1 year. "It's inhumane."

Sheriff Joe just replied, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes....So shut your mouths!"Anybody have any comments?

Sheriff Joe RULES!! Viva la Sheriff Joe!

JMHO!

P.S. Viva HJFinAZ! LOL!

And, viva la difference!

Regardless, happy Sunday evening to you & yours!
