At the same time, we should be ashamed of ourselves....to lose the belief in love and marriage is to finally accept old age and cynicism....belief in love should remain eternal...and why not marriage at any age??... if the love is supreme and indestructible...??...none of us should ever give up hope....

Maybe you misunderstand me. I agree with you, there's nothing wrong with wanting marriage at any age.

If you met somebody in RL and on the first date she says, "Well I want marriage...." You'd be leaning back in your chair a little wouldn't you? It's the same with the profile, just a bit full on.

I disagree...why should talk of marriage be scary??...this is a dating site....it is a logical and appropriate component of that....it's more an age thing...marriage is for those young enough to want to start a family...for the rest of us, over 45...forget it...been there, done that...

Well yes I agree. It is an age thing. I meant scary for over 45's. Once bitten twice shy. Or for some people here 4 or 5 times bitten.....now that is scary. I had a man write to me for a while then I found out he had been married seven times. wow!

I am not looking for anything as such either..If someone (girl) passes 'pays me a vist/flower..' I return the compliment. I look at their profile and I says they are looking fof marriage.. No problem with that. I think you've a better chance of meeting the right person closer to home..

I agree everone is here for their own agenda

Even if were looking I would never put "marriage" in my profile. Serious relationship is better. Talk of marriage in a dating site profile is a bit scary in my opinion.

That might help.

To be honest if I had company I'd be opening a bottle of wine and firing up the BBQ. I picked up some beautiful thick rib eye steaks yesterday.

Very litttle would get done on the house, but really, who cares.

It's not quite the same, but I understand you. Anyway, what's wrong with it? Is it because you're just looking for fun, no strings attached?

BTW, I'm not looking for anything, or anybody I should say, so I'm not criticising anybody for their reasons for being here.

Do they? I hadn't noticed, but then I don't trawl the profiles. From what I read on the forums though, most just seem to be looking for a serious relationship. dunno

Hi Lago. That's got a country and western, trad Irish feel which doesn't appeal to me. It's the only kind of music I can't get into it, except for a few Johnny Cash numbers. I'm not trying to get round you phoenix BTW!

Gerry had a completely different feel, 60's Liverpool beat, lively, innovative sound, not old english.

If that is your sly way of asking about my qualifications to talk about this subject - How's this?
I started doing drugs in 1972 at the age of 13. I was 13 the first time a I put a needle in my arm. I did drugs off and on for 34 years but alcohol was always my drug of choice. In 2003 I started smoking crack to get off the booze. It worked but it destroyed my life. In 2003 I was a corporate executive living in a 5 bedroom house with a pool in a very exclusive suburban neighborhood. By the time I finally got clean in 2006 I was penniless and homeless, living on the street.
In the 2 years I have been clean, living a program of recovery, I have become closely associated with hundreds of recovering addicts. I know people who are/were addicted to EVERYTHING you can think of, including marijuana and alcohol (yes, alcohol is a drug). I have had many close friends die from drug use and/or the problems that go along with it.

Well.....does that qualify me to participate in this discussion?

As for the marijuana thing. I'm serious, I could hook you up with some shit that will put your lights out; but I won't.

thumbs up

Well I guess that does probably makes you more qualified to answer than most of us here.

Doesn't mean that people will necessarily agree with you though.

I'm speaking as an observer only here as far as this post refers BTW.

Thank you, I seem to understand the objections to legalize drugs, but for some reason several don't seem to understand why I favor legalization.
I have posted my reasons but people focus more on the now, of the addicted.
I totally understand this.
I am looking at this picture, what legalization would change for the benefit of everyone, later.
Less people getting addicted, that is the goal.

When the drug labs are out of business, drug dealers can stay home, no kids being used to sell, prisons being empteed, money laundering, no more need for mules, a lot of crime eliminated. etc.etc.

No you're wrong sweet lady. I understand what you say here but I think you have misunderstood some of the posts, including mine.

I haven't really said no, in opposition to what you believe, but I have said that there are already legalised drugs such as alcohol or cigarettes which are dangerous.

My take on all this is that we shouldn't have to deal with yet another legalised, life threatening drug. We have enough already! Alcohol, cigarettes can be fatal, they are legal therefore people use them either recreationally or to excess. The exact same thing will happen if other drugs are legalised. Maybe not straightaway but in time, for sure.

Legalised drugs anyway line the pockets of our governments at the end of the day, and as a socialist I would say no thank you. Politicians who advocate legalisation, in the main, do so because it will boost the government coffers in terms of taxation, like alcohol and cigarettes.

Bullying starts in childhood and continues through adult life and it is inherently different.

We all recognise bullying in childhood, in school. It's easy to acknowledge. Just as worrying is the bullying that goes on in our everyday lives, whether it is work or our personal lives.

I too have experience in this. I was an equal opportunities officer for a few years in the Civil Service before I changed my career to teaching English.

As Sommer has said, it would surprise, maybe shock some you, to learn what the definition of bullying actually is.

I think that was the suggestion...to make all drugs legal.
But like you said Jan, "from what little you know"

And I think you have misunderstood my post.

Yes, from what little I know, not being a pot smoker personally. However my two brothers are and have been for over twenty years, so I'm not totally out of the loop here. they are not addicts and it hasn't affected their lives outwardly at least. Just like people who go out drinking at the weekend.

I didn't single out this habit as an evil which should be banned did I? I linked it with acceptable drugs such as ciggies and alcohol.

All I was trying to say is that I don't believe that the world will be a better place with one more legalised drug.

You see, there are sensible users, perhaps like yourself and others, just as there are sensible users of alcohol, but there are abusers too and if it is made easier to obtain there will be addicts which is why we have alcoholics and smokers who cannot, or find it difficult to quit.

Any drug is addictive if it abused, including pot, whether you like it or not.

Christ, why not make everything legal then we can all be emphysemic alcoholic, pot/crack heads!

Look, I've already responded to this post saying that I really don't know whether some or all drugs should be legalised. I do know that I'm a smoker, and I really wish I weren't. I drink, not to excess, but I really wish it wasn't so readily available and acceptable given the alcohol problems young people are facing nowadays.

From the little I know, pot is useful in alleviating pain in certain afflictions and is prescribed by some doctors, albeit illegally. If I was offered something to ease pain then I would take it, but please don't offer me or anybody else something which can kill me 10 years before I should naturally close my eyes and go to sleep. I already know that smoking is going to knock some years from my life if I don't stop soon.

I believe that smoking pot is no more harmful than cigarettes, but I choose not to smoke it because I smoke cigarettes and therefore I have somewhat of an addictive personality. I also believe that smoking pot is detrimental to the health in the long run so don't add one more thing to the list of morally or legally acceptable drugs.

I tried it once and I was ill. Partly because I had been drinking a little, partly because I had been smoking cigarettes. Nasty combination so it can't be all good can it?
