The first beagle I had lived to be 18 years old, and I didn't have too much trouble with her until she was ill at the end.
The 2nd one is now 6 years old, and was a bit more defiant, than the 1st.
I work all day, and there was no question that she would have to be kenneled for the hours I was gone, because she had the habit of "going" when and where she felt like it !
She now (most of the time), comes and gets me, and I ask if she wants to go outside, and she runs for the door.
This took some patience and constant saying the words,"Go Outside?" and showing the action,(Opening the door for her).
I also say "Go Potty" until she does, before she is allowed to play.
However, she still has accidents if I am too busy to notice her asking me to go out.
She has been used to the kennel since she was 10 weeks old, so she doesn't think it is any sort of punishment.
She curls up on her blanket and sleeps most of the day.
She does not go potty in there, unless I am unusually late getting home.
She goes in there by herself even when I am home if I am busy, because she is so used to it.
I don't know if she will ever get over the accidents that she has occationally, but it keeps the house safe having her in the kennel during my away hours.
