Raven,
When I lost my beloved cat (who had been with me for almost 18 years) last March, I made a memory book of him which included some poems that helped me deal with the grief. I hope these poems give you some comfort.
A friend sent me this:
Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you.
I loved you so,
'twas Heaven here with you.
-- Isla Paschal Richardson
This is my grief speaking:
"Requiem"
The missing piece,
Irretrievable,
Becomes my nexus,
Binding me
Inescapably.
Small moments,
Tiny rituals,
Buried in yesterday's memories
Push to the front of my consciousness,
Looming,
Demanding
Obeisance,
Remembrance,
Sentinels
Of absence.
My world
Bottoms out from under me,
And the love
That once promised so much
Lessens not the pain
That now cuts
Deeply.
Helpless,
I surrender
To tears,
Each one echoing
The silence of my grief.
Saying goodbye is never easy.
Saying the last goodbye
Never ends.
