I realize that a lot of people have work related issues, personal, friend/family issues which raise concerns about publicly posting a picture. I also realize that the fear of being teased, or embarrassed by people they know can be a strong deterrent to posting one and I certainly felt the same way a while back. I dealt with the “online dating” embarassment problem by telling people I’ve met several very nice people on-line, dated several (one for nearly a year) and that not only is it a modern way of meeting people it’s simply a way of opening up my options in life. A few teases and jostles later and it’s old news. You’ll probably even find a lot of the potential tormenters use these websites to meet people as well.
I still find it a little odd though that some people feel looking for a new mate and best friend is somehow something that needs to be hidden from those they know. We go to parties, pubs, and many other places to meet people without even the slightest tinge of embarrassment. Of course some of the faceless ones are looking to cheat on their spouse/partner and some are simply not who they say they are.
But, after all, we are here to meet people and, this is of course only a personal opinion, but not being able to see them kind of irks me a little. If I were to go to a party (other than a costume party of course) where 90% of the people there wore hoods or masks over their faces I’d probably run screaming from the room.
