Well, I was told that when wine arrived in Oz,
the Aussies wanting to be fashionable used
"blanc" (French for white wine) to order white wine,
and in time it was misconstrued to Plonk!

I thought it was hilarious when someone in the
Sth Australian wine industry told me of the background.
It made sense to me wink
