venere08: Ah, train rides are fabulous! But when you board the 'Overland', which is the Melbourne-Adelaide train, forget ALLLLL you know about train travel in the EU. When you come close to Adelaide and start to go through the Hills, you can prolly walk faster than the train, in parts! Oh, and get a sleeper, though they do have the day train. I almost forgot. That way you will be able to see the countryside, and have a few stops along the way.
Right, great idea... but most of the trip would be in the dark, no? Venere?
What do they charge these days?
venere08: If you're going down the Sth East to Mt Gambier, you must visit the caves in Naracorte, with ancient stalagtites. I do have many fond memories of Mt Gambier, as I went there regularly for work. Walking around the entire Blue Lake is also a must. You do know it is still an active volcano, don't you?
Havent been to the Caves, are they worth seeing? Not dark and musty? Got any paintings?
The leg of mutton... sigh

venere08: From Adelaide, if at all possible, you could fly to Alice Springs and from there, join a bus tour to go to Uluru. Sunset over the Rock, while enjoying a champers BBQ, is one of the must do things before you die!
Its 500 clicks from Alice to Uluru... besides you cant climb it anymore, which is a drag.
