Gingerb, this is very well done. I like the tempo and the images that the words conjure up. wine

Get back here! Or at least log on long enough to send me your email address. You can't just disappear now, Please?

Your words are important to more people than you know. Your strength is amazing. And I have finally written another damn poem, spawned by something you said.

In response to:
This year is a differnt Chrismas for me. I lost a friend this last November (I think it was November) from cancer. He was only 27 and I knew him from school.
Now this last thursday I lost another friend because he had a stroke last Sunday on the 16th. He was totaly brain dead and he just passed away on the 20th. I was at a Christmas party when I found out. So I left the party to go see him because I might get another chance. About 1 hr after I left the hospital from visiting him, he passed away.
And my neighbor's mother just passed away last nite too. My mom and her friend knew the mother of my neighbor so they visited her on the 21st.
Now the weird thing is, she passed away that nite also. So within 24 hrs there were 2 deaths that I knew and my family knew. Now here is the strange part, they both passed away right after they were visited from us.

Since my friend passed away, I have been down. I am having a hard time.

I don't really have anyone to lean on. So if anyone has a shoulder that I can lean on, that would help.

Thanks.
Possibly the friends and neighbor were comforted by you or your families being there for them and it made their journey possible to continue. I have lost a few friends that fought leaving this physical world until peace found its way to them and they felt safe to leave.

Saddness is normal, reflecting on their lives and how it connected with mine also a neccessary part of grieving for me.

Honor how they touched your life. And may comfort surround you at this time.

Verthandi is from Norse mythology. Short version, three norms care for the well and world tree that touches every aspect of life. Verthandi is the keeper of the "present" or here and now.

That is the part that I felt most in this poem too.

"Night fell,
my arms were there to catch it,
to swing the subtle folds of dark
around my shoulders"

Painting with those perfect words again, dear lady. wine

In response to:
I have never been in the direct path of a hurricane, Barbados has not had a direct hit since 1955, but there have been some close passes. It is simultaneously the most frightening and exhilarating of experiences to be caught in the storm.

I guess adrenaline doesn't care what triggers it, the feelings are the same and we name them fear or excitement to fit the moment!

Glad you are safe.
I find that amazing, I would think that Barbados would be more likely for hurricanes than here. I have experienced two that were direct hits. They made the sound of standing beside a freight train seem mild.

The storm last night was just the outer fringes of a passing storm, still windy enough to rock the house.

In response to:
I'm living in the midday of my life.
The textures have all changed,
edges blurring from the careless
hand of time, a sloppy paintbrush
on the angles of my face, my form;
the stranger in the mirror
does not show the sparkle
burning in my spirit,
deep inside, untouched,
untainted by the waters
flowing deep beneath the bridges
I have crossed to get to here.
The subtle darkness in my hair
is overwhelmed by silver,
I have been crowned in moonlight
where darkest night once ruled;
as eyes that rival
limpid woodland pools,
a smoky peat all shot with gold,
are hidden under glass. So changed
still yet unchanging. I sit and wonder
where have I gone, when did I go away?
When did the “snap, pop, crackle”
in my joints become a stab of pain?
When did my fine young fury
become a gentle smile
just like those of adults
who did not understand?
The answer dances just ahead
of where I stand today and yet
it is not sadness makes me cry
it is the times I did not say
I love you. I shall no longer
waste my hours looking in the corners,
at the ground, instead of reaching
for the stars that are my birthright;
I shall stretch, shall set those joints
to creaking, embracing life and love
and living in my midday
with all my wild young heart.

Ahhh, I know that stranger in the mirror. But she is wiser, better and more comfortable than ever before in her life. Good night Bajanblue.

In response to:
Apollo kisses Night into submission,
the clouds all pink with pleasure
as they decorate the sky;
fragile flags that shift,
that ride the wind
making castles into mountains
into molehills; a never ending dance
of change, of transformation
as the moments all move forward
into day.

Good morning to you all!
Happy Sunday.
What a gentle way to start the day...thank you dear lady, for the wake up.

Gales still blowing here too from the passing of the hurricane, but a sunny day in store to clean up the remains of last night's storm. Thankfully it was still out over the ocean as it made it's way north.

In response to:
Why is it, that women over a certain age change so much. Before, they were happy go lucky, a good laugh and eager to enjoy life. There seams to come a time, when all this changes. They won’t speak to you unless you are wealthy or 10 tears younger than them.

I used to think this was a big problem, till I took the time to think about it. I think they are scared of their age and need either a toy boy, to make them feel good, or a rich man to give them security.

All this time. there are genuine men, looking and being snubbed. DO these women realise, that they will not always be attractive enough for the toy boy and the rich man can easily afford a younger model?

I would be interested in the views of both men and women.

Cheers
Lol this old one hasn't changed that much, I just don't move at the speed of light any more. Learned that life is meant to be enjoyed at a comfortable pace. Wealthy? not necessary, but I will not support someone else. I already have.

Younger than me? interesting.....the 40's crowd, locally and on line are the ones that seem to be interested and flirt with me. The majority of men my age have taken to the couch and seem to like it there. Generalizations I realize, but I have yet to met the 50ish guy that is willing to be active besides maybe fishing.

I've been on this site forever.

Things about me that guys might not like:
(1) I'm old
(2) I live in the middle of nowhere
(3) I have a job (my son) that affects my dating options
(4) I'm too skinny

Or is my breath??

Does anyone else have this problem?
Too skinny is a problem??? Glad I have that one under control. rolling on the floor laughing

Well this is trash...but I think it has all your words.

Though I know
it might snow,
and appear queer
to you dear.

It happens here at the lake
near this time of year.
Make no mistake, you will shake,
as you watch each flake.

They keep falling deep
as I sweep you to a place
to fall into sleep.

Morning Bajanblue, excellent way to start the morning! Not long ago I reread a book that talked about the word alone. I liked the spin they used. Alone = All One. To be complete and comfortable with oneself.

For me sometimes examining the hurt is the way though it. I know I have tried to stuff it down in the past, but it sneaks in later and causing more trouble. The one thing in life that I have learned is it is okay to hurt, be sad and vent it in a safe way.

Living has it's cyles of life and death. Both happen in a real world. Only fantasy is happy all the time.

Some of my best writing has come from these moments, most of which I never share with anyone. But to revisit those poems always make me realize that I can and do survive and come out better on the other end.

Try to love yourself, and the rest of the world will take care of itself. hug

Very nice poem and really shows your feelings today.

I live in a town that got 2 blinking stop lights last year, and most of us don't like them. No Main Street, post office, street lights or police department. 2 corner general stores that both close by 8 pm. 4 firestations located on each side of town, still maned by volunteers. Darn good rescue team also. Too many new house going up with city folks trying to change the rural landscape. Neighbors still help each other, and know if one of us is missing for more than a day. Nearest small city is 15 miles north or south. Life is good, peaceful and quiet. I can sit on my backsteps and marvel at the stars in peace and safety. I have been home from work for over an hour and not one car has gone by. Some people have to go on vacation to find this kind of solitude, I have it every day.
