I must be very feminine . . . I have had to 'dumb down' to engage in ungainful conversation with most men on here, too. In fact, I have always had to dumb-down to talk to the common biped and have reduced and sacrificed my noble terminology like a little girl talking to a doll.
I have found the women on CS to be far more intelligent than the men. In particular Trish, Aries, Riya and Detente to name a few.
Detente's a woman??!! My God, no wonder she's so thoughtful and good-looking (the beard had me fooled, I admit, but then I know a little about how that can be deceiving blushing )

As a Liberal I believe society need some nurturing and guidance..leaving it up to human nature and 'choice' alone to rule is a recipe for disaster...

Think of long term my friend.. legalising drugs in the morning with not appease the tax burden.. there might be a short term surplus, but that would be quickly eaten up...
"Leaving it up to human nature and choice alone is a recipe for disaster..."

What - are aliens covertly nurturing and guiding us? confused dunno laugh

I agree with you that the current Drugs Laws dont work.. I am a strong advocate in favour of social and legal reform in that area... and feel very strongly, in particular, about recent legal developments in Ireland... that is why I think more research has to be done, it is not a problem that will benefit from any kind of knee jerk reaction.. but SIMPLY legalising.. in my humble opinion.. will not work.. I think perhaps education together with more proactive and strategic methods of dealing with 'offenders' is the best route.. just a thought... I am as aware as anyone by the way that users are the victims.. have no issue with them... just the Ostrich in the sand approach that Governments seem to adopt.. :
Imagine all the government programs that could be funded for drug education if funds presently used to prosecute people were available (as a libertarian, I don't especially like this argument, but I thought it might appeal to youlaugh)?

There are several intelligent ladies on this site...women of grace, virtue, extreme intelligence/intellect.

They're kinda obvious...to be honest. You can spot them a mile off.

Now, and I mean no offence in how I word things here...I've just woke up, so please be gentle.

Do you women feel the need, or have you ever felt the need to dumb down so as to appeal to menfolk?

Do you just accept the sleaze and filthy innuendo that men seem to spew thesedays, because it's de rigeur...most men do it...I just have to learn to accept it?

Can you see where I'm coming from with this?

Will women ever just stand up for those values that make her unique and very much to be valued, and wait for men to smell the coffee and get their act together?

Or will woman continue to play along...accepting the status quo...grinning and bearing it?

Thanks for your patience!
Damn it, Detente, I tried to be patient, but I half to admit I finally just skimmed through your post laugh

That's kind of an interesting question, though. I've certainly noticed a lot of women here bending over backwards to appear dumb and compliant in order to win over the CS men. cool

I mean educate them in the sense of show them health videos and meet reformed addicts to tell their stories... not GIVE them drugs.... in case ... the Coke scene in Ireland has exploded and we are already seeing the repercussions... Highly publicised deaths and that kinda thing.. met a guy recently was cute.. kept disappearing to the toilet, until after one of the visits he came down with his nose pumping blood.. he confessed later that he had spent $400 on the stuff that day to 'celebrate'
And cocaine is illegal in Ireland, right?

I'd rest my case there - there are so many other points to be made against illegalization - but perhaps the principal one is that DRUG LAWS DON"T WORK! All they do is fill prisons, enrich corrupt cops, distract from solving real crime, and subsidize organized crime (the Mafia ballooned during US Prohibition in the 20s).

The question before is not about approving drug use. Generally, I think using mind-altering substances is a bad idea (my brain's warped enough as it is). Also, cigarette smoking is a terrible idea, and costs vastly more loss of life and health than do probably all illicit drugs combined. Same goes for booze.

The question is: SHould drugs be illegal? Completely different issue from whether or not we should partake of them.

SO what if they don't excel in studies and getting good grades? Why should that be held against them? I'm not biased - I'll even try a "B" or "C" drug, despite their being classroom-challenged.confused sticking out tongue

I am undecided.. I come accross a lot of people affected by drugs in my work, and while I accept that legalising drugs would have an almost immediate impact on directly related crime and have possible health benifits from the side effects of say e.g. dirty needles and the like... i think the use of Coke for e.g. could definitely increase and the social problems associated with that, although not as visible can be equally as extreme, I would like to see more studies done and I would like to see 'no holds barred' education on the issues in schools, if kids heard/seen have of what I have they would run a mile...
Okay, Aries. There's one thing I like about your post, and one thing I don't.

The one thing I liked is your beret. Damn, that's cute (where can I get one?)!

You know the most first most noticeable consequence of legalizing drugs? The swift bankruptcy of drug lords, to be subsumed by far more efficient business firms. Prisons would quickly follow, as a large portion of their residents would vanish. And, of course, a sharp reduction in police corruption. Imagine a police force where its first priority would be going after actual criminals such as rapists, murderers, thieves, etc. Maybe they might catch a few more of them.

People who like using drugs are already using (and abusing them, in some cases) now. Same thing with alcohol prohibition. People were drinking and being alcoholics before and after.

Jeff

I could picture 50% of the United States being on a cocaine buzz....now wouldn't that be entertaining?
Ah, Indy, I think that already has happened (it was popular in drinks and medicines before it was illegalized in the US).

And it WAS entertaining. At least the house got cleaned regularly by all those amped-up housewives.love

I think drugs should be made legal; alcohol and cigarettes are also mind-altering drugs and they are legal; so should drugs, but they should be regulated by our government for adults only.
Right on, CallMe (except the part about be regulated by our government).
