In response to:
I am undecided.. I come accross a lot of people affected by drugs in my work, and while I accept that legalising drugs would have an almost immediate impact on directly related crime and have possible health benifits from the side effects of say e.g. dirty needles and the like... i think the use of Coke for e.g. could definitely increase and the social problems associated with that, although not as visible can be equally as extreme, I would like to see more studies done and I would like to see 'no holds barred' education on the issues in schools, if kids heard/seen have of what I have they would run a mile...
Okay, Aries. There's one thing I like about your post, and one thing I don't.
The one thing I liked is your beret. Damn, that's cute (where can I get one?)!
You know the most first most noticeable consequence of legalizing drugs? The swift bankruptcy of drug lords, to be subsumed by far more efficient business firms. Prisons would quickly follow, as a large portion of their residents would vanish. And, of course, a sharp reduction in police corruption. Imagine a police force where its first priority would be going after actual criminals such as rapists, murderers, thieves, etc. Maybe they might catch a few more of them.
People who like using drugs are already using (and abusing them, in some cases) now. Same thing with alcohol prohibition. People were drinking and being alcoholics before and after.
