In response to:
Ever been to a gun club, served in the military or handled firearms? Now americans are rought up mostly for respecting there dangerous and not to be cavalier with them.
Not us brits....when i went to play paintball with a team in florida years ago i was witness to 2 incredible peices of stupidity in a gun club where if the tinyest thing had gone wrong well, people would have been in a pine crate going home.
Case #1. Blanche (his nickname) had never played with a gun before, and i promised to teach him more in an hour about how to shoot than anyone else would teach him.So i took him through a baretta 92f through all three desert eagles to the AR14 with a triburst trigger,to An Ak47 and he was absolutely hooked.....until i was cruel and messed about with the rounds when it came to him using an Italian Military Assualt shotgun.....
Grape shot, grape shot, then full buck load single ball slug.....bang....he virtually shit himself...
So i took him back to a nice Heckler and Kock Mp5...the Rolls Royce of submachine guns.
The man on the range was happy to let me show him as he was pretty happy i knew what i was doing, then i turned my back to tlk to one of the other guys on the next range who was blasting away like dirty harry with the dersert eagle .50 pistol.....i hear rob, something around to see the guy pointing the gun at my chest and saying "its not working, something is wrong" The range guy shits himself and says put the gun down now....and blanche is standing there still pointing the gun at me and i ask him to turn it away from me, and then look at the red selector switch......which means a round was chambered but didn't go off!!
Needless to say my angel was working overtime that day.
Case #2. Man also on range has a stopage with a pistol....says hey this ones not working, rattling it like his paintball gun, then i swear he puts it to his eye and looks down the barrel.......talk about dumb.
It's safer going duck shooting with Dick Cheyney........
If you have a better story than dumb foriegners abroad feel free to share....
Robbie,
Your angel was indeed working overtime that day! *Broke a sweat just reading your story* That's scary!

Having been brought up on a ranch with animals and other creatures who carry rabies, distemper, etc.. I was taught to handle firearms at an early age and always under the watchful eyes of my parents/ grandparents. The weapons were kept under lock and key and we had to ask permission if we wanted to go out and target shoot. We had BB guns back in those days of knocking off soda cans filled with water off of a bale of hay well away from the house and barn. If we'd even THOUGHT of pointing the bb guns at one another or at the house or barn, they were taken away from us, emptied and then put away under lock and key and then my folks would proceed to put our butts in a sling for immature stupidity.

That only happened once, but we learned quickly not to fool around with firearms. We were taught a healthy respect for them.
I was also a member of my high school's ROTC rifle team. We used .22 air rifles for competition and I was the only female member on the team.

I still have the medals that I earned that are now framed proudly on the wall in my den.
I currently own a 20 gauge side by side double barrel shotgun that i now keep under lock and key. My folks taught me well, I think.
I'm not a gun totin' redneck, as I don't take the shot gun with me everywhere that I go, but rather a well educated , well taught, and well armed woman who speaks silently and carries a big loud fire stick. I'm not afraid to defend my home, property, livestock and family if need be, but using the shotgun is the last thing I'd use as I'd
much prefer to use my bare hands for defense first. Did I mention that I'm trained in target force training?
I have a couple of stories about dumb Americans abroad that I witnessed while on my travels that I could share if you so desire.
