A very good reason why Obama shouldn't be elected president. Be sure to read it, it's chilling.

Great thread, Phoenix! thumbs up

I'm a, Irish descended Texas woman, born and bred. I attended UT Austin with Matthew MCconaghey. He was a good guy as I remember, it was a "hi", "bye" sort of thing through the hallowed halls of my beloved alma mater.

Thinking of the good things that America has to offer- Have you ever walked, climbed or smelled the air of the Rocky Mountains, or the Appalachians, the Blue Ridge mountains, or the Smoky Mountains? Have you ever witnessed Autumn and the changing of the leaves in New England? Have you ever driven those quiet back roads, seeing what was around the next bend?

Have you even driven across the great plains of this nation, seeing the wheat and the corn grow, knowing that it feeds families and provides fodder for animals? Have you ever spoken to the folks of the Midwest and have looked into their eyes and seen their life stories written upon their hands? Have you ever traversed to the Cascades and on to the sea of the great Pacific, watching the whales frolic? Then, have you ever been to the great white north of Alaska, meeting the Eskimos, working with them side by side as they bring in the daily hunt for their families and communities? Seeing all the great wonder of the polar bears and seals, orcas and wandering around the magnificent parks.

These are just some of the things that I LOVE about America. I see not only her faults, but her great wonder as well. wine angel

In most cultures of the world, the naming of children is taken very seriously, Many cultures do as the Hebrews dis during biblical times, attaching prophetic significance of a person's name. That is also the case of the Luo people of the Nyanza province of southwestern Kenya.

That is the ethnic group of which Barack Obama's father descends. The senator's father, a Muslim, gave his son names from the Arabic language, the same work barak, means "lightning". For the Biblical significance, see Luke 10:18. The senator's middle name means "handsome". But the last name Obama does not come from Arabic. It comes from the Luo language. Ir means "crooked".

Really. Obama means "crooked", "zigzag", or "not in a straight line". So the entire meaning of his name- as it would be understood by diplomats from AFrica or the Arab world- is: "The blessing drom the handsome one that is crooked".

So... is his name prophetic, or more coincidence?

Growing up, my mom had a key chain that said, "You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince". Well, she and her "prince" (my father) have been married for 44 years.

As I matured and dated I found that very saying to be so true. I've kissed a lot of frogs, and have found my prince. angel

As the saying goes, "You may not be perfect, but you can be perfect for someone". This applies to men and women. None are perfect but we're each perfect in our own way. How cool is that? wine

While a beautiful art, it's very heartbreaking too. I know that I could never participate in such a sport. The winning bull does get to live the good life with the cows and breeding. The losing bull is used to feed the poor. It's a tough balance to be sure. What a lot of folks don't know is that these bulls are best referred to as the "killer bees" of the bovine world. They're bred to be nasty and tough. And they will kill you is given the chance. However, I sure wouldn't recommend them as pets.

As a rancher, I only handle my cattle (once a year) vaccinating, branding, castrating, worming and ear tagging. After all of that, they are turned loose out into the pastures to grow as Mother Nature intended. angel

His is going silver now and some days I can still see some of the last vestiges of that crowning glory. :-) You know, Claire, should you ever decide to color your hair, there are some temporary hair colors that wash out. You could try it and see how you like it! angel
