I am a manager (with a very good standing) in a very small office. A new account executive was recently hired. This woman presented well and is very professional in front of my boss. However she has been unbearable to myself, my assistant as well as other co -workers. She has made snide, rude and aggressive comments. She has been caught lying by my staff. I have called her on some of her behavior. She became extremely defensive and denied any part. She has even attempted to bad mouth me behind my back to my assistant! (who promptly put her in check!)
Today she even questioned my abilities to a client! I have brought this to the attention of my boss who basically said, "I trust your judgement to handle this matter the way you see fit." Since she is not my direct report, I can not fire her. I guess I am not sure just how to react to her. I have never had problems getting along with others in my profession before. I realize I do have to work closely with her but how do I do that with out strangling her?

I too am one of many that has been a victim of sexual abuse. My family had a long history years ago with sexual abuse. The cycle only continues if it is kept secret. I went through years of therapy when I was a teenager and have learned to deal with my issues by marrying a abuser. (Another 4 years of therapy after I left that marriage.) I am now a well adjusted adult with a stable emotional state because I choose to get help.

Now my views on predators and offenders:
I do not believe that sexual criminals can be cured. One offense, period, the offender should be removed from main stream society and never be allowed unsupervised in an area where that type of offense can occur again. If that means that work camps with mental health facilities be established to protect the innocent then we owe it to protect and serve. I believe that they should be made to pay their own way not state funded.
In America, we have plenty of areas in industry where labor generated revenue could be established.
In the case of innocent people wrongly convicted, the lawyers should be held accountable with monetary compensation the same way that our medical doctors are held accountable with malpractice.
