Lorax68: I think this is a silly question. People who vote based on race or gender shouldn't be allowed to vote. Or have children. Or drive.

Obama represents a chance to bring new life to the democratic party by giving hope that change is possible to an entire generation, or two.
He does not accomplish this by being a specific skin color.
