lusciousmile: I know most christians would find it frustrating to know their child was born a 'sin', and i think they would have a harder time trying to alter their ways for them, so they don't rot in hell. I can also imagine how devastating these children would feel. I wonder how the same people feel, when a child is born prematurely, with a mental disorder, physical impairement, or with their heads stuck to another child's. I'm not talking about gay people having a deformity, i am talking about differences , like any others.

Differences are not sins, and the same God who gave these children to these christians, should deal with it himself, not his followers. I mean, what control does a christian have over any of the things i mentioned above?

RobbieM: Education and religious beliefs are diametrically opposed, so i am always amazed when normally intelligent sane people get swept up in a religious net (if you will).

When did you realise you were religious in nature, and how as an educated woman can you explain God's will and daily accidents, collapses, famine pestilence and say such other matter that a loving god would allow.

How do you rationalise all this?

kitty01: I am upset as my two grand kids were outside playing, one a boy and one a girl. The boy is turning 6 and has autism and the girl is 5. We got a phone call a couple of days ago that the foster mother of the girl is upset as she said that the boy touched her inappropriate and she did not like it.

After investigating they found out he had padded her on her bottom. Now they are not allowed to be here at the same time.
I do not know why she would use those words and wonder what else she is saying when she is here.

Well, it seems clear that social constructs emerge from biological realities. That isn't to condone those "constructs" - but I don't think one can reasonably assert that they materialize arbitrarily out of nowhere rather than have a basis in human nature.

If we lived in a society that condoned some form of "poly" relationship, we could just as justly argue, I think, that it was a "social construct."

From my readings one cannot argue that either monogamy or poly are biologically imperative; rather, there are biological forces for both (or some combination thereof). What I think it comes down to are *psychological* issues for each individual.

What I've observed is that people generally fashion their belief systems around their psychologies. Someone, for example, who has a lot of trouble maintaining a close, committed relationship might tend to create a belief system which accommodates that behavior. On the other hand, someone who has experienced - and feels most comfortable with - very intimate, long-term relationships, would tend to shape a belief system around that.

Ultimately, one might attempt to step back and view the bigger psychology "picture" more dispassionately toward the end of seeing what kind of lifestyle seems best suited to human happiness.
