I was just reading more about it..

Bloody good idea isn't it.

I told a friend about it a couple of years ago. He was
setting off on a eight month round the world trip.
He did two G/Tortoise trips, one of them coast to
coast. When he got back he told me it was the best
part of the entire round the world trip.
He is coming with me in December, this will be his
fourth G/Tortoise trip.cool

(sorry I had to get back to work) Yeah same here.. we have pretty much given up on it now. I think we had it in April/May..

It's tipping down with rain again now.. The forecast is quite good for tomorrow ::faints::

then its back to crap after that..

When are you going to San Francisco?

Not till December 16th. Two days in S/F then fifteen days
in Baja Mexico. Another three days in S/F, then back home.
Three weeks in all.
Traveling to Mexico with Green Tortoise Tours, have a look
at their website, they do some good trips all over The States,
Central America and Alaska. Its cheap and cheerful, rough
and ready, just my kind of traveling really.

Helloooo Graham

Still no summer here..

It's the most CRAP I've ever known summer here.

I've had to put the heating back on some nights..

and! I had to put the duvet back on my bed.

I have friends coming down camping in a few days..

they are sooo looking forward to 'beaching'

Eeek!

Morning Claire, I've given up on the hope of any summer
this year. Its the constant gloom thats getting to me, I
have to put my kitchen light on most evenings when I
get home from work. Not something I would expect to
do in the middle of summer as my kitchen is usually
bathed in sunlight in the evenings.
Doesn't look like I'll be getting down there this year,
unless we have a sudden turnaround, but looking
at the forecast, that seems unlikely.
At least I've got my San Francisco trip to look forward
to.cool

I don't necessarily require darkness or complete silence / quiet. I do find that it is helpful, for the times my constantly thinking brain is not wanting to co-operate. Hehe.

I can tune things out. Some days, it just takes a bit more effort to do so, but still...

It's the same for me re: including sensations. Gotta love those sensations! There is a bike trail near me that runs along a huge body of water & a park. I go there often. I'd sit in the sun if I weren't part albino
Normally, I sit in the shade by the water after biking the trail & meditate. There are usually many other people about, doing whatever they are doing - fishing, boating, socializing, etc.
After a point, though, I feel as if I'm the only one there. I know & am aware that I'm not the only one there, of course - but I think you get the picture, in a meditation sense...
There is another place I often go, away from home where there is a beautiful pond with fish (I feed them) and an old wooden swing...
Helps me to see myself from within, if you will...... Nature centers are yet another one of my favorite places to go for meditation. I adore earthy nature aspects......

Red, this sounds very similar to TM. How long would you
normally spend meditating.
With TM, 20mins twice a day is sufficient.

For me, I get much more out of it than I put in.

long time Gra. have you developed or used it beyond using it for relaxation and centering?

I havn't managed any yogic flying if thats what
you mean Al. I just use it to attain restful
alertness and to free my mind from unwanted,
unneeded thoughts, something that sleep alone
maybe cannot achieve.

"When we raise ourselves through meditation to what unites us with the spirit, we quicken something within us that is eternal and unlimited by birth and death. Once we have experienced this eternal part in us, we can no longer doubt its existence. Meditation is thus the way to knowing and beholding the eternal, indestructible, essential center of our being." - Rudolf Steiner

Hey fred, get yerself down to Adam & Eve's sauna
in Eccles, just down the road from you.
Your sure to get fixed up there, but be careful, some of
those 'women ' aren't what they appear to be.
But on the plus side, they probably wont mind if
you talk a load of crap.

Oh, I have no doubt it's a lot of fun...going up. It's the coming down - really fast - that rather intimidates me. I have this dream of putting some gymnastic stuff up in my backyard - bars and rings and such, and kinda hangin' out back there. Plus maybe one of those boards with holes that you climb by jamming wood dowels in an hoisting yourself up...used to enjoy that in gym, but can't remember what they're called. Maybe I could built a wall and glue/fasten a bunch of rocks to it and climb it...while the neighbors and locals stand around drinking beer and shaking their heads in amazed incomprehension? Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

Bolt-on holds are readily available from most
outdoor shops or even online.
It can be quite good fun building your own
climbing wall. The holds vary in size and can be
easily adjusted to add to the difficulty as you
progress.
Be careful of tendon strains in your fingers as
your body strength will increase quicker than
your finger strength. I always use finger tape
on indoor walls and whilst bouldering.
My main interest though lies in big mountain
routes, not technically difficult ones but long
and totally absorbing, usually amongst
magnificent scenery.
Yes, truly a workout for mind, body and soul.thumbs up
