I think parents need to realize that there is no "one way" to raise or discipline a child. They are individuals and what works on one doesn´t work on the other. I was lucky with my daughter... the "guilt" thing did it with her... All I had to do was say..."I´m really disappointed.... I thought I did a better job of teaching you... why would you put me in a position..." and she´d be in tears apologizing.

I think kids are growing up with no sense that there are consequences to their actions. As kids, my brothers and sisters and I all knew that if we did something wrong it was the belt across the open palm, never done in anger but with a talking to about why we were being punished.

But mostly I think it comes down to consistency... so often, especially in single parent families a parent can´t be bothered or they are to tired to deal with the smaller problems and let them slide.... it doesn´t take long before the bigger problems occur once a kid knows he/she can get away with it.

hmm we dont have a law here anything remotely close to that but i do agree when the child himself or herself isnt mature enough to think and decide .. having the law on their side isnt always very positive.

Even today my brothers ( both teens now ) would never think of calling names to either parents well even me. I cant imagine my children doing that either. It will have to stop right then.
