OSTARA

Ostara is a Neopagan festival celebrated on the spring equinox, which is between March 19 and March 22 in the Northern Hemisphere.

On the spring and fall equinoxes, day and night are of equal lengths. Ostara celebrates the coming of spring, new growth and fertility.

The English monk and historian Bede (d. 735) recorded that the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre had a festival lasting several days, and that this name was adopted in England for the Christian holiday of Easter, which falls on the Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox.

Eostre has since evolved into "Easter" in English and "Ostern" in German. The word "Ostara" comes from the German mythologist Jacob Grimm (d. 1863), who said this was the Old High German name for the Easter festival. (All other languages use a variant of "Pascha," a Greek adoption of the Hebrew for Passover, for the Christian holiday.)

The Germanic words Eostre and Ostara probably come from the same root as "East," the direction of the rising sun. They are not etymologically related to the word estrogen, which comes from the Greek oistros, meaning "frenzy."

The Neopagan holiday of Ostara is also known as Lady Day, Egg Day, or Alban Eiler (Druidic).

For Wiccans and some other Pagans, Ostara is the day when the Goddess and God (variously identified as Mother Earth and the Green Man or the Young Maiden and Sun God) join in sacred marriage. The Goddess will conceive, and give birth in nine months. The increased growth and strength of nature in the spring is due to the rising power of the Goddess and God.

IMO Schools should be year round. There are many off days. I'm not sure but I think it is the same amount of off days as a regular school year. I remember I couldn't wait for summer break to come. Then came september and I've forgotten a lot of what I spent the last year learning. When school started teachers spend the first quarter reviewing what we learned the previous year.

Also I believe that SOL Standards Of Learning Testing are a waste of time. Teachers have to rush through some things to make sure that everything that will be on the test is taught. If the students miss it or do not understand it too bad. The class keeps going and those who dont get it have to get tutors. Also, I don't know how it is anywhere else but here you have to pass your SOLs to graduate.

I was in car accident last nite. I had the kids I watch with me too. My dad was driving and this suv didnt stop when it should've. Our van is totaled. Everyone is fine ....I got the worst of it...but it is just several brusies. I hate car accidents. I'm just glad no one had to go to the hospital. So how was everyone else's weekend?

I dont have any kids but I know from expirence what it feels like to have a mother put her boyfriends before her kids..because mine did. she would leave when i got home from school and didnt come home until 3 or 4 in the morning. I was 12 and had to raise my 2 yr old brother and younger sisters. then our mother tried turning us against our dad and tryin to force her boyfriend now husband and his family on us. He never liked us and still doesnt and yet she married him. ..oh well she'll leave him when the next poor sap comes along...anyways I have always been pround of single parents male or female that put their kids first. you are doing the right thing and if that person you want to date cant see that then they arent worth your time

like i said personaly the best time to come here is durning the neptune festival. and that is in OCT. The summer is really bad here in the way of prices. but then again there is alot to do here durning the summer.

keep in mind that if Va beach wins nothing goes on until the summer months. I know ive lived here for 19 years. So anytime from june to early sept. its more fun then but it cost alot more and ud have to make ur res. now if you want to stay anywhere decent in the city. otherwise you'll end up somewhere in norfolk... in the fall there is the neptune festival and that is alot of fun and the weather is still nice.

Its nots easy. I lost my older sister dec 26 1995. I was 6 years old. it is still hard on this holiday. when i think of her i think of others my grandparents and my brother and my 2 best friends. all ive lost and most near a holiday. its gets better slowly ..for me anyways...
