Oh my, we didn't hear any hate from the Bush administration that wasn't covered with manipulation anyway.

Opal i don't like any of our candidates but this thread is about Obama and I am giving my opinion on his candidacy.Bush is an asshole and thank God he can't run again.Hilary and McCain are old school thugs.

I am voting for Mickey Mouse as a write in candidate.

go to a predominately black church in Chicago and then get back to me...I never said that his words were right..I SAID THAT THEY WERE UNDERSTANDABLE.... please quit pretending that there in no racism in America...it's getting a bit unnerving for you to do that.....

no prejudice is understandable no matter what. When whites speak out against affirmative action ,forced busing and the like ,they are billed as KKK.Anyone who spouts hate in the house of God is a hypocrite .period.Anyone who sits there for 20 years and exposes their children to rhetoric like this is also of questionable character.I have been to black churches here and they don't preach hate or blame whitey for anything. You can go thru life hating and blaming or you can get off your ass and make something of yourself. This country has to many great opportunities for someone to be preaching hate in this day and age.
People need to stop playing the blame game.Racism only has power if you allow it too.

There is such a thing as the ''Spirit of the Olympic Games''.
In Ancient Olympia wars were suspended and death sentences could not be carried out for the duration of the Games.

The effort atheletes make to excel/surpass their physical selves are sacred, imo, and their road is long.
Very often there is no second chance to compete/prove themselves.
The Games used to be considered sacred too.
Even now, you all know, there is no greater honour than to have been an Olympic Champion.
I myself, believe the athletes competing deserve to be honoured with our presence, our support and our recognition..... at the very least.

Traditionally the Olympics promoted fellowship and peace. I don't believe they should be used for political/human rights purposes, even ones of such great significance.....

I hope you all won't think that I'm putting the Olympic Games above the tragic plight of the peoples of this world.....
'Cause I'm not.
I just think they should be kept separate.

cheers

I am glad to see the thread.

In South East USA, we some problems with some of the alternative electical production systems. Imagine a wind mill farm following a 100+ mph wind hurricane passing. What you would see is a lot broken turbine blades on the ground.

Also we get long periods of time with heavy overcast here. Yes I know....countary to what the Florida Tourism boards tell you to visit sunny Florida. But such overcast reduces the effectiveness of the solar electric systems. They still do place solar cells on the houses here and there is a state lawed utility pay back program on kwa going into the grid system.

The big thing that many here are looking at is the 'thin film' solar cells.
They are low cost, light weight and very efficient in making electricity.
So unlike the heavy solar cells, they are easy to place and will not weight down a roof.

On the electric car. A real question there for most American....that love our big hp vehicles is this. I am passing someone in a electric that I have been using for a time.......its batts are down.......and I am trying to get around a car doing 70 on a two lane road. I pull out to pass the guy, and don't have enough juice to go over 75. This is not a good situation.....as that 18 wheeler coming in the other direction at 75 gets closer and closer and closer.

The electrics and the hybrids have the range to do well. But do they have the horse power to survive on our roads? Where I live.......hemi power dual wheel drive cab trucks are a standard for many. Putting a electric on the road with them is like putting a lamb into a wolf convention. The lamb is not going to like the experience.

then your neck of the woods will love the new pickups and suv's .http://4wheeldrive.about.com/od/hybridcarselectricvehicles/Hybrid_Cars_Electric_Vehicles_HEVs_Full_Hybrid_4WD_Trucks_SUVs.htm

Apparently we're not even will to pay a little bit of money. I watched an interesting documentary called "Who Killed the Electric Car". There was alot of talk about Government, the Automotive Industry, and Major Oil Corporations; but the bottom line is we killed the electric car. Because not enough of us really cared enough to make it a viable option.

the electric car was not a viable option to begin with. The hybrid is much more suited to our highways.
