WhatUwish4: How typical...you answer my post but do not address the content. Instead, you send a message which has little meaning and makes less sense.

Again, please go spew it on someone else. I'll not waste time on your posts.

Stop dry humping the leg of the GOP. You are the typical one. You cannot even answer a single question about anything of substance.

Trust me I will leave you and your loony ideas (but they really arent ideas) to Nurse Ratchett and the gang.

Selah.

WhatUwish4: Actually David, you did not ask me anything at all. Go back and read your posts.

"And you never( gave me)your guided by the light insight of how we can solve the oil crisis."

"I asked you what your thoughts were on the oil crisis, yet all you could muster was Newt's blowhard diatribe about Anwar, Offshore drilling, etc."

You would be a politician. Maybe Crist will ask you for a cabinet position.

WhatUwish4: No, David. You've very wrong about that. With two exceptions, everyone here LISTENS to the others point of view and doesn't just come out slinging crap. There's constructive debate and there's mud slinging. I find I've grown weary of the mud-slingers because they really have nothing to add save negativity, whereas you can actually LEARN from constructive debate.

So go sit on your high horse if you like, but count me out. I would prefer a slightly higher quality than what I've seen from you.

I am not sitting on a high horse. I listened to your youtube clip and gave my opinion. I wasn't slinging anything. Newt did say he was "guessing", did he not? Opinions vary in online discussions you must know this already. I was stating that Gingrich was using the same talking points instituted by the Republicans the last few months. And you accuse me of using party rhetoric! Give me a freaking break. Newt Gingrich is one of the most conservative voices in the GOP.

I asked you what your thoughts were on the oil crisis, yet all you could muster was Newt's blowhard diatribe about Anwar, Offshore drilling, etc. You might want to think about accusing others of being biased, b/c you my dear are as biased as any GOP thrill seeker out there.

opalbeauty: All you are here for is to make personal attacks and try to quite people who don't see everything your way. That is pretty childish from a man who says he loves everyone and is so enlightened. Why don't you give it a rest and let other's express their opinions without your personal attacks for having different views than you. All you want to do is argue. I guess if you can't discuss the issues you want to distract from them. I will just ignore you.

Yes, Opal it appears that a lot folks can take it out on others in this thread. the lines are drawn in the sand from the left and the right. I am "GUESSING" that none of us will live together in perfect harmony. Some people cannot stand by their posts and articles they post on here.

Just remember the words of Bob Dylan:

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

WhatUwish4: First, he was talking ABOUT the speculators, not like one.

Second, if we lifted the ban we would instantly become an Oil Producing Nation....

Third, I did not say Newt was the be-all and end-all, but he makes a hell of a lot more sense than most (including you)

And I meant that NEWT is NO better than the speculators for "GUESSING". He did say he was "guessing" in that YOUTUBE clip you posted, didn't he? Maybe you should go back and see for yourself.

Here is Merriam Webster's definition for "guessing"

a. To predict (a result or an event) without sufficient information.
b. To assume, presume, or assert (a fact) without sufficient information.
2. To form a correct estimate or conjecture of: guessed the answer.
3. To suppose; think: I guess he was wrong.

Gingrich is no better than those boo hoo spooky speculators that predict/guess the price of oil. I will let Newt Gingrich be your Nostradamus for all I care, just give me some inside information on the Tarheels chances in the NCAA tourney next year!

And you never your guided by the light insight of how we can solve the oil crisis. You seem to sugarcoat your posts with the same old talking points that the GOP has instituted the past four or five months.

WhatUwish4: Obviously you did NOT see the link. Another spouter with nothing to say but the party line rhetoric.

A spouter? Did I not say Newt, Newt, Newt? I watched the video and nothing he said made any sense. You are the one teetering on the GOP seesaw. Just because Newt Gingrich has an opinion about our nation's oil dependency doesn't make him the 'Jed Clampet' of the oil industry. He is talking like the speculators of the oil industry. Everyone knows about these 3 messianic prophecies that he outlined.

Okay, let's say the President and Congress lift this ban. Now what? Well, every state on the East and West coasts will have to come together in unity to start the process. I can tell you right now that North Carolina would be one of many states that would not go along with this idea. The ecological dangers that could happen off of our hurricane prone coast would be one of the biggest obstacles of selling offshore drilling.

I would recommend you go and waste 10 minutes out of your day and sign Newt's offshore drilling petition. SHOW SOME PARTY UNITY WITH NEWTY "Contract with America" Gingrich!

WhatUwish4: I think Newt has hit the nail on the head here with regard to solving this gas crisis. Just out of curiosity, David...Do you agree with this logic? Or what do you think we should do to end the gas crisis? I really don't know your position so it's hard to discuss with youhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=UOpcPfAarjY

Newt, Newt, Newt... No I do not agree with anything he has to say about oil.

One of the ways to cure the United States dependency of oil is to stop making these behemoth SUVs and replace them with energy efficient vehicles. Every soccer mom across the country will crinkle their eyebrows at this statement, but I dont care. American car makers should be the solution. They should model their plants after Honda and Toyota.

Off-shore drilling is a delusion. Right now this is one of my favorite Republican talking points. Did you know if we lifted the ban and started drilling that it would take the American consumer 20 years to see the price at the pump drop? On many levels this is just one in a dozen "great" GWB strategeries. lol

Here in my state Elizabeth Dole has asked the ban for offshore drilling to be lifted. I just laugh at these "grand" ideas of the GOP. T

ttom500: David, how could we get 600,000 documents from inside Iraq government prior to the war? We could not, right?

So ask yourself this one. Why would a number of middle level DoD types, that are on career tracks. With little gain, because even if they come out with a report kissing GWB tush, they are still on the same pay grade tomorrow, right? Come out with a report on the 600,000
documents that is anything less than to the best of their ability and is honest?

Is the standard right wing. No doubt about. But this does not discredit to having solid articles with solid info.

Tom, let me think.... Would the DoD lie to the American public for political reasons? Hmmmm...OF course they would. It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to break that down. The firing of seven US attorneys... Scooter Libby and company outing a CIA agent... Lying to the United Nations about sketchy Intel about Weapons of Mass Destruction... George Bush has stated "if you are not for us, then you must be against us." You betcha' these DoD folks would lie to keep their jobs.

I take 'The Weekly Standard' articles with a grain of salt. The left has their own fruitcakes spewing gibberish much like Hayes that I wholeheartedly disagree with...

Is the standard right wing. No doubt about. But this does not discredit to having solid articles with solid info.

Ok, if you say so.

David, on Pakistan and Afghanistan. I agree there is a fight there.
The question is do we send our troops into it or proxy it with Afghan and Pakistani? Just last week Paksitan came to the conclusion that
the Taliban had broken the truce with them. Began major operations
in the Northwest Tribal region. A principle reason that the Russians lost....even though they were placing 500,000+ troops there...is they never got to the Northwest Tribal region.

I think Bhutto would have been a great leader for the Pakistanis. It is sickens me that Mushareff did very little for the United States during the height of the Afghan conflict. His military should have covered the borders and captured those bastards.

You know as well myself. The Russians took high casualities in Afghanistan for 10 years. Not like what are taking in Iraq....less than a 1000 a year, David. We are talking closer to 10,000 per year. They lost a close to 100,000 there.....if my memory is correct it was 96,000. That is alot of people. We put the same number into Afghanistan....that 500,000 figure.....to win...we also put 500,000 into harms way.
But fighting this with proxies.....keeps alot of American troops out of harms way....specially if the proxies can go to places that you cannot.
Makes alot of sense to me.

You are correct the Russians took high casualties. One of the main reasons they lost so many was the United States helped aid the Mujahadeen by sending weapons to Osama Bin Laden and his forces. Another bungled operation that would come back to haunt the CIA and the United States.

One A-bomb from the Untied State's stockpile would calm that region.

On the economy. This one that the Dem and Rep need to share blame on. jmo GWB was in the White House, but the Dem had control of the Congress. Right now with a election year...they pointing fingers at each other like there is no tomorrow. They don't have enough fingers to point in fact....that is why guys like Carvel, Morris and yes Rove...make big bucks on TV kicking out the spin de dour of the day.

Wait, wait, wait... I love how you slipped in "Dems had control of the Congress". Actually the Republicans held the majority for the first four years of GW's term. And you know as well as I know if the Dems had the votes and a clear majority a lot of what they would have said would've came to fruition.

But, I do agree both sides have done a terrible job.

WhatUwish4: Yeah. We're all sitting here safe and fat and happy, bitching about the war, but we're not afraid of being attacked anymore.

tell you something?

It tells me that Americans will not be duped into another round of FEAR MONGERING from Dubya!

Not everyone in this country is sitting around "fat and happy". Drive to your local gas station and look at the price at the pump. I would say more people are sitting around starving and poor.

Poll: Terrorism fears are fading
According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Wednesday, 35 percent of Americans believe a terrorist attack somewhere in the United States is likely over the next several weeks.

The figure is the lowest in a CNN poll since the September 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people.

Between 2002 and 2006, summertime polls typically showed that a majority of Americans believed that a terrorist attack was likely. Last summer, that figure dropped to 41 percent. This summer, it dropped another 6 percentage points.

The latest CNN poll also indicates that the war in Iraq remains deeply unpopular. Three in 10 voters favor the war, while 68 percent oppose it. Similarly, a third of voters would like to see the next president keep the same number of troops in Iraq that are stationed there now.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/02/terrorism.poll/index.html?

eref=rss_politics&iref=polticker

I hope the neo-cons don't start trying to use terror alerts to spook people again soon. They are well known for that. But I think the majority caught on.

Of course they caught on! The 2006 mid-term elections are proof of that!

ttom500: David we digest the conspriracy theories of the far left, yes? Well as much we can. Go to the sites that Opal and Dude post that have merit and issue to them, yes? You know that because we come back into the fray with comment to them specifically. Be open minded enough to see it from the other side some?

I have read Hayes in the past......sited him here even. He make solid connections with evidence, in my opinion. I have not read this. But suspect it is worth the read.

But read him and judge for yourself.

Tom, I read the Weekly Standard every week. The views expressed by this publication are so far right that Pat Robertson has a child by them.

None of this intelligence came to light during the start of the war in Iraq. George Bush solely went on the fabricated "weapons of mass destruction" bandwagon. You could also say that it was out of vengeance b/c of Saddam's failed assassination attempt of his father:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=OC5dfneoHcE

Reading both sides doesn't always define truth. The true war was in Afghanistan, not Iraq. This blank check that Congress gave to Bush was incompetent and disgusting, no matter how you look at it. Looking back our country was still in the midst of the smoke and haze of the Trade Center/Pentagon attacks.

We have almost spent 1 trillion dollars on these two wars. Our economy is in shambles. Gas prices have increased almost 3 dollars since Bush was elected. Our housing market is in tatters. Americans will vote in November with all of this in mind, that is if they can afford to drive to the polls. The every day American is not concerned with helping rebuild and police a country. Saddam is gone, which is good...Al Quaida is growing stronger in tribal areas of Pakistan/Afghanistan. My point is, "why stay in Iraq"? Let them take care of their own country. It is that simple. Our forces should be centered in Afghanistan to fight the real fight. Why won't they this? Does it come from the fear of losing in Afghanistan like the Soviets in the 1980s? Probably.

WhatUwish4: Saddam's Dangerous Friends
What a Pentagon review of 600,000 Iraqi documents tells us. by Stephen F. Hayes
03/24/2008, Volume 013, Issue 27 "In 1993, as Osama bin Laden's fighters battled Americans in Somalia, Saddam Hussein personally ordered the formation of an Iraqi terrorist group to join the battle there.

For more than two decades, the Iraqi regime trained non-Iraqi jihadists in training camps throughout Iraq.

According to a 1993 internal Iraqi intelligence memo, the regime was supporting a secret Islamic Palestinian organization dedicated to "armed jihad against the Americans and Western interests."

In the 1990s, Iraq's military intelligence directorate trained and equipped "Sudanese fighters."

In 1998, the Iraqi regime offered "financial and moral support" to a new group of jihadists in Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq.

In 2002, the year before the war began, the Iraqi regime hosted in Iraq a series of 13 conferences for non-Iraqi jihadist groups.

That same year, a branch of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) issued hundreds of Iraqi passports for known terrorists.

There is much, much more. Documents reveal that the regime stockpiled bombmaking materials in Iraqi embassies around the world and targeted Western journalists for assassination. In July 2001, an Iraqi Intelligence agent described an al Qaeda affiliate in Bahrain, the Army of Muhammad, as "under the wings of bin Laden." Although the organization "is an offshoot of bin Laden," the fact that it has a different name "can be a way of camouflaging the organization." The agent is told to deal with the al Qaeda group according to "priorities previously established."

minimoo: Is it just me or does anyone else have a thing about the height of their date/ partner???

I am 5'6...which is tall enough for a girl I think...but I hate if a guy is not at least 4 inches taller than me - I just feel weird when I am wearing heals or whatever and we are the same height or worse still - I am taller than him!!!

I am not shallow or anything but I cant help this way of thinking.....maybe it is a protection thing, like being with a taller guy makes me feel safer or somethin - anyone else have this problem!??

Height matters to me also. I prefer shorter women as opposed to the amazon types. Since I am 6'4" it is easy to pick and choose. Most of my ex-gfs are around 5'4"-5'6", but I did date a woman who was 5'11" 135 lbs.
