I cant speak for Canada.... but here in the US we are simply paying for the reprocussions of cheaper goods that resulted from the pilfering of our factories, and moving those jobs out of the country... The end result is that those people in foreign countries, who recieved the benefit of the jobs those industries provided, have now upgraded their own standards of living, and are able to buy products that further strain the global supplies of raw materials....
So while we have been paying for below market value prices for food stuffs, textiles, etc etc... for a number of years, we are now having the backlash of the economic slingshot which came directly from this business/economic policy....
Now.... because of the additional cost of transporting those goods, everything comes full swing..... costs of goods are rising to what they should be, and we no longer have the industries to offset those rises in prices.... thus we have become vulnerable, and have ruined our own independence through global economic unilateralism.....and here in this country, helped build an empire for a family whose policies are to gobble up any healthy competition that stands in their way.....
So run out and buy those two dollar t-shirts and those 4 dollar sweatshirts before you lose out on what you essentially traded for in terms of 4 dollar a gallon gas...........
