Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh $7.
The eighth $12.
The ninth $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement -- until one day, when the owner threw them a curve.

"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20."

So, now dinner for the ten only cost $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes.

So, the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share'?

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being 'PAID' to eat their meal.

So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man "but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"

"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore. There are lots of good restaurants in Europe and the Caribbean.

Does Obama know this?

After Mrs. O'Toole's barn burned down, she called her insurance agent to file a claim.

She told the insurance man, "We had that barn insured for fifty thousand bucks, and we need that money immediately!"

"Just a minute there, Mrs. O'Toole," the agent replied. "Insurance doesn't work quite like that."

"What do you mean?!" she said. "The policy here says $50,000!"

"That's a maximum," the insurance man said. "What we do is will ascertain the value of what was insured, and then provide you with a new one of comparable worth."

After a long pause, she replied "That's how insurance works?!"

"Absolutely," the agent said.

"Well then," she said, "I'd like to cancel the policy on my husband immediately!"

The $700 billion "bailout" for Wall Street -- officially known as the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 -- contains multiple "earmarks", or special funding for various pet projects, that add as much as $100 billion more to the costs.

The first proposal by the Treasury Dept. was 3 pages. The failed House version was 110 pages. The final bill that was passed was over 450 pages.

Some of the earmarks tucked into the bill's pages by both Democrats and Republicans include:

* $2 million tax benefit for manufacturers of toy wooden arrows for children

* $100 million tax break to benefit automotive racetracks

* $192 million in rebates for the Puerto Rican and Virgin Islands rum industry

* $224 million for temporary emergency penthouses for financial company executives

* $148 million in tax relief for U.S. wool fabric producers who use imported yarn

* $49 million tax benefit for fishermen and other plaintiffs who sued over the 1989 tanker Exxon Valdez spill

* $48 million a year for film and TV producers who produce their work in the United States

* $33 million tax credit for select corporations earning income from American Samoa

All of those provisions are true -- except for one. Can you figure out which one is fake?

I thinik this mudslinging reveals the true character of those choosing to be our next leader or representative in governement issues....it shows they have no real concept or plan on the real issues or how to improve the plight of America so they go with whats left.... mudslinging.

In short this is how our choices over the pass 30 years have run for office.

"Nice people" they are pushovers they do not strike back when hurt or their trust is betrayed.
nice is most times boring in the sense of the scale from compassionate to passionate

"nice people" they rather walk away then wait to be approached... no self initiative in beginning or ending a relationship.

and yes "nice people" have an unending supply of hope and belief that the speical one will find them and carry them away to live happily everafter.

the good news is this does happen on occasion... not as much as perhaps it should, but it does happen.

my best wishes for all the nice people and they being found and appreciated for who and what they are.

what season are you more apt to begin and/or end your intimate relationships.

I know many of us do not repeat this pattern intentionally but it does seem to occur.

in my lifetime I've never known upfront that one was a

but if I knew upfront before the first date, probably not

sometimes... just sometimes people come on here too thin-skinned and for what ever reason take the words of complete strangers too damn seriously.

I am a firm believer that some that come on here with a soap box crying out "Woe is Me!"is a ploy for attention devious players.

Steve who ever you are, dude of it was not a friend or confidant that betrayed you....IGNORE that persons statement and any of their future responses.

Hollandgirl you stated "brothers keeper" well my definition of that term covers way more then just providing a shoulder to cry on. being my brothers keeper sometimes requires "tough love" and yes brutal honesty and many times offering no pity at all. Its always less time consumingand less personal sacrifice to give a fish to a hungry person then taking the time to teach them to fish themselves.

yeah Brothers Keepers covers way more then offering mere words of sympathy.

my apologizes, but I see no reason to hold the next president liable or accountable for what/will is occur... the legislative branch on the other hand is a different matter altogether.

this is the reason I am re-evaluating those in the legislative branch of my country.

Maybe an "experienced" politician is exactly what the U.S. does not need anymore!
