We need change. There is freedom of religion within both the American and Canadian charter of rights (Constitution in the U.S.) So many religions perpetrate hate under their religious rights. It sickens me, especially under the name of God.

I am an agnostic but would never hide behind that moniker to hurt or disrespect someone's emotions.

I can only hope that our border guards detain them for 12 hours. They are also going to Toronto tomorrow to protest a theatre production. Not sure what the play is about, but they often protest theatre because they believe it to be a gay enterprise.

People die every minute, all over the world, through violence, starvation and disease. I guess somehow this incident has struck a chord in so many because it was so insanely perpetrated for no reason, and within an environment that most have experienced; public transportation.

If the greedy Hollywood types have anything to do with this tragedy, rest assured that they will make a movie out of it. I'm sure a few of books will be written as well.

After watching web broadcasted interviews of Shirley Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church, from the BBC, Fox, etc., I feel sick to my stomach. I will say no more on this subject.

Unbelievable;

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is a fundamentalist Christian church; a small, controversial sect headed by Fred Phelps and based in Topeka, Kansas, United States. The organization is monitored by the Anti-Defamation League, and is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The church runs numerous websites such as GodHatesFags.com, GodHatesAmerica.com and others expressing condemnation of homosexuality, Roman Catholics, Muslims and Jews, as well as populations it believes are supporting the aforementioned groups, including Chinese, Swedes, Canadians, Irish, British, Mexicans and Americans.

Shirley Phelps-Roper is now the head of the church, as her father before her she too is a lawyer.....yes really. I just listened to an interview with her father, where he says of the Virginia State massacre, "33 were killed, too bad it wasn't 33 thousand".

This church group described in a British documentary as "the most hated family in America" says it will head to Canada this weekend to protest Tim McLean's funeral.

The daughter of the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Ka., told CTV.ca she and several other church members will go to Winnipeg on Saturday to demonstrate against what she described as McLean's "filthy way of life." Shirley Phelps-Roper said his life was emblematic of Canada's moral decay.

"God handed us a gift," Phelps-Roper said in a phone interview on Thursday.

She said McLean deserved his death by beheading on a Greyhound Bus last week.


Freedom of religion should have its limits.

Members of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church are threatening to picket the funeral of Tim McLean, the young man decapitated on a Greyhound bus last week.

The Kansas-based church - a small fundamentalist sect led by Fred Phelps - is reviled in the United States for protesting the funerals of hundreds of soldiers killed in the Iraq war. The sect gained notoriety in the 1990s by picketing the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man beaten to death in Wyoming.

Seven members of the church originally planned to picket theatre performances in Toronto and Red Deer, Alta., later this week. They recently added Mr. McLean's Manitoba funeral to their itinerary and plan to stand outside the service with signs reading "God hates you," "the wrath of God is revealed," and "God hates Canada."
