jdc5558: Mine was a while ago. Went through the door took 3 AK rounds to the plate. The first hit my little finger on my left hand. causing me loose my grip on my M16. I didn't have time to think at the moment. I brought my rifle up with my right hand and put a burst in the SOB's face. I wasn't aware of how close I had come until I was back at camp and removed the armor plate from my vest. 3 hits center mass. It didn't get scary until I had time to think about it.

wave

hi jdc5558 !

welcome to the thread !

could be lots to talk about there !

illu_66: An operation about 6 years back went VERY wrong when they overdid the anesthesia. I was 5 hours in recovery and they called my then GF to come and say 'goodbye'. All night things were bad and, because it was a private hospital and I'd only paid up front for the 1 day, I was turfed out the following morning. Even tho I went into anaphylactic shock in the elevator, I was bundled into the back of my car.

Being driven home, I was convinced I was going to die..

My thoughts were actually this:
I was worried about my GF, because we were in a strange city, about 2 hrs from home, so I didn't want her to know I 'was dying'. I felt she'd cope better with the situation when she arrived home. At least she'd be in familiar surroundings and with people she knew nearby, rather than stuck in a layby somewhere scared to death. I closed my eyes and 'waited'...

It certainly changed my life along with my perception of people and my time on this earth.

wave

welcome to the thread !...how interesting !

thumbs up

lots to talk about there !...when i thought i was dying i called my brother and told him and said " you better get here ...and i mean fast "

10 hours ago : i bet none of you can tell us how many times you're suppose go to somebody's grave after they die ?
luvlife2: well he was an ordinary man,but he was my father, for that and the fact that he was a human being ,that is why he deserves it,,plus he served his country, and for that he is a hero!!

so you obviously liked him then !

and was proud of him being a soldier ?

changing the conversation slightly luvlife.... there's a very nice woman that was in my filmmaking class last term.... thats now part of our film discussion group.... thats got a severely dyslyxic 14 year old son with major learning difficulties, with a very unsual interests in guns , and warfare

he's very intelligent and can read ...but has trouble writing and spelling

anyway she says it looks like he wants to be a soldier of some kind, because the books that he reads , and the depth of his knowledge to do with warfare for a 14 year old is astounding ! ! ! !

he has a very special interest in the military and history of military operations which surpasses that of an ordinary teenager

he's her one and only son ....and she's a single mother...they hardly see the father who lives in another country !

its her nightmare that he becomes a soldier and gets killed in a war

what would you do as a mother if he was adamant that he wanted to be a soldier and you were adamant that you did'nt want him to ?

trish123: You wont find logic to alcoholism Gilly, dont think too badly of him as it is an illness and not done from self centeredness as many believe. Heres a poem I once found;

the great remover

Alcohol is a product of amazing versatility.

It will remove stains from designer clothes,

and will also remove the clothes from your back.

If by chance it is used in sufficient quantities,

alcohol will remove furniture from the home,

rugs from the floor,

food from the table,

lining from the stomach,

vision from the eyes,

judgment from the mind.

Alcohol will also remove good reputations,

good jobs, good friends,

happiness from children's hearts,

sanity, freedom, spouses, relationships,

and man's ability to adjust and live with his fellow man,

even life itself.

As a remover, alcohol has no equal!

kiss

theres a lot to talk about there trish ...this afternoon ..got to dash ,,but also telll me what you think about the 14 year old dylexic boy with ' the mighty military mind 'from a social services point of view
