Instead of taxing colleges I'd like to see the tax code changed to include churches and other faith based institutions. At least colleges educate the people. Religeous organizations have been getting a free ride long enough. It's time they paid their fair share of the tax burden. All they do is take anyway.

I wouldn't be opposed to churches being taxed, as long as they could take deductions the same as a business. Some of these large churches that branch into medical fields, counselling, etc are no more than a business. They just avoid corporate taxes but yet make "windfall profits".

I would love to see colleges taxed; especially when they're sitting on 35 billion dollar trust funds. That seems like a windfall profit to me; especially when that money earns them interest and little if any goes toward reducing college costs. If so, college costs wouldn't raise twice the rate of inflation.

It's debateable as to whether they really teach anything other than political agendas.

The problem is that when you declare you activity as NON- profitable, you get exemptions in taxes. So, are those private colleges aiming non-profit goals? No, for them it seems like education is becoming a layer of the corporation, sort of speak.

The public schools, with governmental support have different standing point. They might not be better simply because the concept of education has changed to become related to business...
On a regular basis, here people simply decide not to go further because they have other options, not because they are not reach enough...
If you restrict the access to education only for rich people...i wonderful how your human rights is enacted; it's simply a high pre-requisit, it's a prima facie denying personal-development, denying your abilities...

Poorer states tend to have less educated people. They also tend to attract lazy people who are looking for places with lower cost of living and a democrat state where they tend to give away everything. These states are alway behind by about ten years on many things. Too many fingers in the pie also. I get amazed with the poorer states by damn we have sports places, race tracks, beer joints and clubs, but the youth is let pass in poor schools. Then you have college student that can tell you every score for every game played in the last 20 years but don't know you don't get hot water from the water company.(true) And they all think it is their God given right to have credit.
Young couple calls the gov for assitance. They need money because the baby is sleeping in a carboard box that their new 60' plasma TV came in................... crazy!

I don't doubt this at all. Massachusetts has another name...........Taxachusetts. They tax just about everything and I believe they even have a tax for when you take a dump

Having lived in southern NH for most of my life, I've seen more Mass people in NH just to do their shopping to avoid the taxes in their own state. Sometimes I've thought I had crossed the state line due to the number of Mass residents in NH

It is funny how states develope a "perfect state with all the social ills addressed"....then the residents end up bailing out, because they can't afford to live there; Mass, New York, California, etc.

A standing point should be to view education not as a business.
Liberalising education is not appropriate. The idea that it brings better services is wrong in my point of view. A good college needs good teachers, we have brains for that, we do not need money to buy that.
Actually, most of the spoiled kids in private schools are not really aware of the importance of education. If they pay good, in principle they MUST pass.

Now question: the top Unies, aren't those who profit more?

I don't know...it's just sad...

May disagree slightly. I think any not-for-profit is actually a business. It has the same goals as a private business. To thrive and to stay in existance for the benefit of itself and to some degree the population it serves.
